The City of Wilsonville GIS department is planning to deploy a 2-person mobile GIS/GPS team for approximately three months this summer.  The team will be responsible for the collection of City infrastructure attributes including GPS coordinates, inventory numbers, and various other details.  Assets will include items such as manholes, fire hydrants and bus stops.  The exact items have not been determined.

In addition to the field work, there will be a desktop component of the project where field data will be integrated into the City’s enterprise GIS.  SMART (www.ridesmart.com) is working to include transit data in Google Transit.  The team may also be responsible for the submission of SMART transit data to Google in the specified format.

The team will have the opportunity to work closely with the City’s GIS Manager as well as other city staff, yet also independently develop the work plan and daily schedule that best meets the goals for the summer.

*Funding for these positions will be based on the results of the June 1, 2009 Council meeting. At that time the City will determine whether or not to continue the recruitment.

            Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates will apply for the positions as a team with the proven ability to work well together.  Individuals are also strongly encouraged to inquire.  Preference will be given to senior level students or recent graduates pursuing a GIS certificate and/or career.

            Compensation
The positions will pay $15.00 per hour.  The limited duration program will run for three months approximately through June, July and August 2009. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

            Application Process
The required application and additional information regarding the City of Wilsonville is available at www.ci.wilsonville.or.us or by calling Andrea Villagrana at 503-570-1519. Portland Geocaching Event - May 29, 2009 05/19/2009
            0 Comments

The Geospatial Information Society (GIS) Student Organization (an
ASPRS student chapter) in collaboration with the Friends of Geography
(FOG) is holding a geocaching event at 3pm on May 29th, 2009.

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the
participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver to seek
containers, called "geocaches".  A typical cache is a small waterproof
container (like a film canister).  Along with the latitude and
longitude, we are including historic/background information about the
location and its interesting features. The goal of this event is to
raise awareness of remote sensing and the geography of Portland.

We will meet at 3:00pm in Cramer Hall room 413 to learn about GPS,
bring your own GPS unit or borrow one of ours if needed, learn how to
use it, and go over the rules of the game.  We will be outside by
            3:30pm, dress appropriately!

For more information go to the asprs@psu website: http://www.psuasprs.groups.pdx.edu/
