The 9th Annual URBAN ECOLOGY & CONSERVATION SYMPOSIUM will be held on Monday January 24, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Portland State University, in the Smith Center Ballroom The symposium will focus on urban environmental issues and the practical application of related ecological and social sciences in the greater Portland, Oregon / Vancouver, Washington region. The focus will be on networking, building partnerships, and exchanging information. Planned events include a series of oral presentations, a poster session, two keynote speakers, raffles, and a post-symposium social. AAG Community College Travel Grants Due November 1 Support from this grant program is awarded to outstanding students from community colleges, junior colleges, city colleges, or similar two-year educational institutions to attend the next AAG Annual Meeting. These travel funds are generously provided by Darrel Hess and Robert and Bobbé Christopherson. The award consists of meeting registration, one year membership in the AAG, and a travel expense subsidy of $500 to be used to defray the costs of attending the AAG Annual Meeting. Oregon AFS has organized a Salmon in the City symposium that will take place at the University Place (310 SW Lincoln Street) in Portland, Oregon on October 14, 2010. This one-day symposium will look at the impacts of urbanization on salmon and steelhead, how these impacts might be minimized or eliminated, and how fish will respond to restoration efforts. We have lined up an exciting panel of speakers to address the topics surrounding this issue. CARTOGRAPHY AND GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SOCIETY announces 2010 ESRI USER CONFERENCES: FULL CONFERENCE REGISTRATIONS AVAILABLE FOR STUDENT VOLUNTEERS DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: Monday, May 24, 2010 The Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CaGIS) is once again pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of FULL CONFERENCE REGISTRATIONS available for students to act as booth volunteers ("ambassadors") at the 2010 ESRI User Conference (12-16 July), the ESRI Education User Conference (10-13 July), in San Diego, CA. CaGIS and its affiliated organizations will offer full registrations (worth up to $1395) to the User Conference and the Education User Conference. These ambassadors will, in return, be responsible for staffing the CaGIS information booth at the exhibition pavilion of the conference for allotted periods of time during the conference. We are looking for volunteers who will appropriately and positively represent the society to the public. Students must (a) be enrolled in an undergraduate (BA or BS) or graduate program, (b) be a current CaGIS member (not a member? join now: http://www.cartogis.org/), (c) have research and/or career interests that align with the mission of the society, and (d) be outgoing, friendly, and professional in appearance and manner.
