Mr. Elvis Tata

GIS Technology for Enhancing Forest Conservation in Cameroon

Considering the increased marginalization of indigenous forest people and the growing global concern about threatened and irreplaceable biodiversity in swamps and old growth forest of Cameroon, public demand in Cameroon more than ever calls for a contextualized technical knowledge useful to breach gaps in conservation planning by policy makers. To this effect, Elvis will be suggesting adaptable GIS methods to enhance Cameroon’s conservation schemes from lessons he has learned in the Pacific Northwest.

Elvis is a high school geography teacher from Yaoundé, Cameroon and is completing a six-month Fellowship at WFI studying GIS technology use in the forestry sector.

Please RSVP to me before Thursday, March. 15, or pay $9 museum admission.  Plan to come early if possible to enjoy conversation with other WFI fellows from China, Korea, Iran, Bolivia and Ireland.

Directions via Trimet: From the city center, board blue or red max headed west.Get off at the Washington park stop and follow signs to Forestry Center.

Directions via car: From the city center, take Hwy 26 west. Take Exit 72 marked Forestry Center/Zoo and follow signs. Stay left as you enter the parking area and WFC is near the top of the lot.
