The Geospatial Information Society (GIS) Student Organization (an ASPRS student chapter) in collaboration with the Friends of Geography (FOG) is holding a geocaching event at 3pm on May 29th, 2009.
Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver to seek containers, called "geocaches". A typical cache is a small waterproof container (like a film canister). Along with the latitude and longitude, we are including historic/background information about the location and its interesting features. The goal of this event is to raise awareness of remote sensing and the geography of Portland.
We will meet at 3:00pm in Cramer Hall room 413 to learn about GPS, bring your own GPS unit or borrow one of ours if needed, learn how to use it, and go over the rules of the game. We will be outside by 3:30pm, dress appropriately!
