General Information The Port of Portland has long standing contract with the US Army Corps of Engineers (since 1891) to maintain the Columbia River navigation channel to 43 feet. The dredging operation covers approximately 106 miles from Astoria to Portland. The Hydrographic Surveyor will work along side the Port's dredge vessel "Oregon" conducting and directing surveys in accordance with the US Army Corps of Engineers contract. The Port is looking for a licensed Professional Land Surveyor to operating DGPS, GPS surveying instruments, terrestrial total station and electronic levels to accomplish the collection of field measurements for hydrographic surveys and upland disposal site surveys. The successful candidate will be able to process field measurements into X, Y, Z positions with point descriptions when necessary, utilizing HYPACK, Trimble Business Center and AutoCAD Civil 3D and provide data in appropriate format for the use of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, dredge Oregon personnel, and stakeholders. Yamhill County Public Works in McMinnville, Oregon has two GIS Intern positions available this year for work on the Roadside Vegetation Inventory. The position closes on Friday, March 11! Just an email indicating interest would hold a spot and allow more time to get the rest of the application materials to Public Works. The interviews will be by Zoom on March 17.
