Position Description:
1. Central San is looking to hire an Asset Management & Geographic Information System for a 6 MONTH INTERNSHIPS $24.00 per hour


This position will assist the Asset Management/GIS Group with GIS and Asset Management projects. Duties include editing and maintaining GIS datasets, collecting field data, creating and updating District maps, publishing map services and supporting the asset management system. Should have experience with Esri ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro. Preferred Qualifications – completed GIS course(s) and/or majoring in Geography or another geospatial major. Central San is a special district that provides wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal services; recycled water production and distribution; and household hazardous waste collection. These internships are 40-hours, Monday through Friday, and located onsite in Martinez. These temporary positions are a six-month commitment, starting in June / July 2021 and finishing in December 2021 / January 2022. To be eligible, must possess a valid California Driver's License and have a satisfactory driving history. The positions also require to be a current student with junior or senior standing, or a recent graduate (graduated within the past 12 months). These assignments provide an opportunity for students to apply their academic preparation to practical work experience in a wastewater utility. GIS Intern working in the Environmental Stewardship section of the Willamette Valley Project (WVP) for the Army Corps of Engineers.  WVP is a major water resource project responsible for operating 13 dams and managing natural resources and recreation in the lakes and surrounding lands. We manage nearly 50,000 acres in the Willamette, McKenzie, and Santiam watersheds.  The Environmental Stewardship section is known for their community partnerships in natural resource preservation and restoration.

Primary duties include data acquisition, data management, natural resource GIS mapping, and field GPS data collection.  Data analysis for projects related to cultural and historic resources, Master Plan development, threatened and endangered plants and wildlife, invasive plants, habitat restoration, easements and land ownership, and hydrology.  Additional duties may include field support of other natural resource programs such as botany, wildlife biology, cultural resources monitoring, boundary surveys and park operations.

Compensation amounts:
- $1,100- one time RT travel allowance
- $260 - weekly living allowance
- $40 weekly commuting allowance
- $950- monthly housing allowance (12 months of housing)
- $3,000 duty travel reimbursement
- AmeriCorps eligible ($6195 education award)

*All allowances subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes
 
  • Location Description
Office is located on the north end of Fern Ridge Reservoir, about 13 miles west of Eugene, OR. Mailing address is 26275 Clear Lake Rd, Junction City, OR 97448. Field work is concentrated at 8 of 13 lakes in the Willamette Valley, but day travel to all lakes may be possible.
  • Training Provided
Online ESRI ArcGIS training, local GIS workshops, other online classes or offsite training for natural resources, and first aid/CPR training. Additional on-the-job training in natural/cultural resources field monitoring methods.
  • Educational/Recreational Opportunities
There are numerous recreational opportunities in the area including hiking, camping, bicycling, boating, fishing and rafting. Just over a 1-hour drive to either the Cascade Mountains or the Pacific Coast.

Our Berkeley accessibility team is seeking a temporary Intern GIS Analyst to join our multi-disciplinary team. This position may transition to full-time, regular employment in the future dependent upon workload, performance, and candidate interest. This is a paid internship that will last from approximately April 2021 through December 2021, though the exact timing is negotiable based upon availability and workload. The candidate does not need to be local to Berkeley and can work remotely. The typical schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, at least 20 hours/week and up to 40 hours/week depending on available work. For current students, considerations will be made for part-time internships to accommodate academic schedules. Please note that completing an internship is not a guarantee of a full-time offer in the future. MIG will support any student that wishes to receive academic credit for this internship.

Responsibilities – What You’ll Accomplish
  • Collaborative Teammate: The MIG internship program will offer exposure to many facets of a contemporary, integrated urban design, planning, and landscape design practice. As the GIS Intern, you will gain experience working with a team of planners, designers, and Project Managers in all aspects of a project’s start through implementation.
  • GIS Project Work: Your primary duties as the Intern will be to provide GIS analysis and mapping for report development for various projects. Additional GIS duties include supporting the maintenance of data collection methodologies and procedures; providing the integration of database with existing GIS tools; providing QA/QC of GIS work products and data documentation; producing geodatabase deliverables for clients; and providing on-going mapping and analysis procedures for implementation tool development.
  • Other Project Work: Additional tasks may include managing project data and workflows that support project teams, report development, meetings with clients and the public, and conduct various technical analyses.

following qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate complex analysis and data in a clear and digestible format to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to develop mapping applications and tools.

  • Ability to perform complex spatial analysis with a variety of GIS data formats.
  • Software proficiency in ArcGIS, Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat (AutoCAD and Adobe Suite a plus).
  • Programming language experience in SQL, Javascript, and Python.

Position Description
This is a one-year assignment with the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) is seeking a focused, detail-oriented GIS Data Entry Intern to work with a team on a tree tracking data entry project. The purpose of this project is to create accurate and current GIS data representing trees on private development sites. The data will be used to inform administration and enforcement of tree protection codes and development of tree related policy.
   
The team performs daily GIS data entry in a fast-paced, production driven environment. Central to this work is reading and interpreting tree data in plan sets and other documents.

Educational Benefit to Student:
Gain experience with Land Use Codes, learn basic GIS System, enter data into a Tree Tracking System and research problem areas.

Job Responsibilities
Performs data entry on the City’s Tree Tracking Database, which is a point layer in GIS. 
 
 Work includes:
  • Read, interpret and verify information from a variety of sources, including, but not limited to: plan sets, as-built drawings, architectural drawings, survey data and associated documents, sketches, maps, notes related to field checks, surveys, arborist reports, and other documents.
  • Review and edit the Tree Tracking Database feature class using ESRI's ArcGIS Pro software.
  • Perform quality assurance.
  • Run queries and apply filters in the SDCI permit system  
  • Review and edit permit records in the SDCI permit system
  • Coordinate and communicate with other team members, supervisor and subject matter experts in support of work tracking and technical job tasks.
  • Independently resolve most routine problems, while informing team supervisor or lead of unusual problems not covered by procedures and guidelines.
  • Participate in presentations, special projects and assignments as directed.

Qualifications

Education:
Student must be enrolled in an accredited educational program preferably studying Land Use, Forestry, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, and Construction Management.

Undergraduate students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA or above throughout the internship.

Required Experiences:
  • Familiarity with GIS software and concepts
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel  
  • Demonstrated proficiency with office automation and information technology tools
  • Requires 6 months experience engaged in data entry efforts
  • College level coursework in data entry, some GIS, Excel, and Microsoft suite
Desired Experiences:
  • Experience with ESRI's ArcGIS software suite.
  • Experience editing GIS data sets using ArcGIS Pro 
  • Experience in the interpretation of plan sets and similar source documents related to development permit applications. 
  • One year of experience performing GIS data creation and/or maintenance.  


Additional Information
Start/End Dates:  Interns will start in early May.  Intern can schedule work hours between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Salary:  Undergraduates will be paid $18.36/hour.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:  Most work is performed virtually at this time with potential to return to a normal City work/office environment.
