Join us for a Bioregional Beer at The Oregon Public House
Apr 06, 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM We'll discuss the online atlas Learning from Cascadia, as well as the futures of bioregionalism in the Anthropocene and a new interactive mapping tool that we will be launching. All are welcome, the first 15 folks to show up will get a free beer. Learning from Cascadia, at cascadia.ecotopia.today, is a set of multimedia maps, bound together on a single web-based platform to create an atlas of the Columbia River Basin and the bioregion known as Cascadia. Focusing on the political ecology connected to this river system, Learning from Cascadia is as much a geography of persons, histories, and collective experiences, as it is a map of locations and sites. https://www.powells.com/book/-9781426219726

Our firm is urgently looking for a detail-oriented cartographer who works freelance, and who has experience drawing transit maps in Adobe Illustrator. In the course of our planning studies, we create many transit maps for our clients, all in a similar style like the slice above. We need someone who can start at once and work quickly under direction. There is not much room for design creativity, as you will be revising maps whose style is already established. The job mainly rewards speed, accuracy, and an eye for clarity and completeness. I invite freelance cartographers to send us a quick note at freelancers@jarrettwalker.com no later than Nov 1. We reserve the right to ask you to complete a very small task, taking no more than an hour, to establish your competence at the type of work we have. We are likely to have at least 60 hours of work for you as part of this contract. It’s possible that this could turn into something longer term. Our offices are in Portland, Oregon and Arlington, Virginia, but you don’t need to be there to meet with us directly, although it is helpful to be on the same side of the planet so that we can interact by phone easily. Reply by November 1 please, but because time is short we reserve the right to act as soon as we find the right person. Please spread the word if you know others who may be interested. A result of the collaborative efforts of leading scientists and forestry professionals, this publication provides information on the different species that can be found in European forests and the factors that threaten them, such as the changes caused by climate change. It also aims to highlight the importance of trees and to increase awareness about the benefits which forest ecosystems provide.
They have published a version as downloadable pdf (actually 2 versions- high and low resolutions) and will be making available an online database of the results. It is thoroughly illustrated with pictures, maps, charts, graphs and tables. http://forest.jrc.ec.europa.eu/european-atlas-of-forest-tree-species/ |
