Associate Planner/GIS Analyst
Closes: The position is open until filled with applications reviewed beginning Monday, December 5, 2016.
Status: 18-months full-time, 40 hours per week beginning January 2017 with employer-option to extend based on budget; Exempt FLSA status.
Salary: The starting salary range is $54,000 – $64,000 annually, DOE, with full benefits.
Location: Puget Sound Regional Council, Downtown Seattle, Washington.

The Position
PSRC is seeking an Associate Planner/GIS Analyst to perform a variety of tasks that support conservation and open space planning in the central Puget Sound region, including innovative approaches to mapping, prioritizing, and preserving regionally important lands. This position is term limited for 18 months or longer if budget allows. The position will provide support to the Growth Management Planning Department in developing a Regional Open Space Conservation Plan funded by a grant from the US Endowment for Forestry & Communities. The position will be responsible for a range of qualitative and quantitative work, including but not limited to the following tasks:
  • Developing and maintaining GIS datasets, mapping and analyzing environmental and other related data as a basis for making plan recommendations.
  • Facilitating discussions and providing staff support to advisory committees and public engagement efforts.
  • Researching conservation and regional planning studies and literature, and developing reports and summaries.
  • Communicating a range of science and planning-related topics and issues, both in writing and presentations.
  • Coordinating with Growth Management, Data, and other PSRC staff and staff from other organizations.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Knowledge of conservation, land use, and environmental planning methods and theory.
  • Extensive knowledge of GIS research methods and techniques for land use and environmental applications utilizing ArcGIS.
  • Ability to perform data analysis and research, synthesize and summarize analytic processes and findings, and make recommendations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem solving skills.
  • Experience developing reports and graphics for presentations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and with the general public and professionals from a variety of disciplines.
 Experience and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, public policy, environmental science, or related field.
  • Two years increasingly responsible experience in planning or related field.
  • Or, any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and abilities required to perform the job.
