About the Position
The County is leading the way in data analytics! As the Elections GIS Data Analyst, you’ll collect and conduct detailed statistical and geospatial analysis on datasets from within the Maricopa County Elections Department. Additionally, this position works to build relationships with election agencies from across the nation to compare and contrast similar data points and create benchmarking analysis. This position will be responsible for building dashboards, reports, datasets, maps, and visuals to inform department leadership with the goal of making data-driven decisions. This position works directly with the Maricopa County Election’s Directors and communicates with executives on a regular basis.

We Require
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in geography, computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, business analytics, or a related field
  • 2 years experience in ArcGIS or ArcPro including 1 year of experience in a business intelligence tool such as PowerBI or Tableau
  • Job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis
  • Ability to register to vote in Arizona
  • Experience translating quantitative analytical information for non-specialist audiences.
  • Must successfully complete the next scheduled Secretary of State Election Officer Certification

Job Contributions
  • Design and implement data models
  • Design and implement interactive and drill-down dashboards to deliver key trends and insights to stakeholders
  • Work with leaders and domain experts to identify business needs, create analysis plans, identify deliverables, and communicate key insights
  • Organize and analyze data from various election-related surveys
  • Create graphical and data visualizations to communicate complex technical information to leadership
  • Work within ArcGIS and/or ArcPro to edit, manage, and analyze spatial data
  • Work within ArcGIS and/or ArcPro to create maps and graphics
  • Analyze voting patterns (participation, wait times) as well as conduct trend and cost analysis of voting methods

Selection Procedure

The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. Those selected will be assessed based on the evaluation of listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a list provided by Human Resources.

All offers of employment made to new hires and rehires at Maricopa County are contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment thorough background investigation. A background investigation is conducted on a current employee who changes to a Safety Sensitive Position or one having the potential for serious adverse impact on the integrity or efficiency of the County. These requirements do not pertain to employees of elected officials who undergo background investigation processes administered through their respective offices.
