GIS Analyst

Level: Staff 2 or 3
Office: Multiple
Posted: March 9, 2023

Aspect Consulting, LLC (Aspect), an earth science and engineering consulting firm, is seeking a GIS Analyst to join our growing Data + Mapping Practice. Aspect works on a wide range of environmental and water resources projects for public- and private-sector clients, positively impacting communities right here in the Pacific Northwest. As a Staff GIS Analyst, you will work to develop GIS solutions, data, and maps to support these projects. Our GIS Analysts work closely with Aspect’s staff scientists and engineers on highly collaborative and dynamic project teams—and, in some cases, work directly with clients on GIS-centric projects.

Being part of our Data + Mapping Practice means developing expert-level skills in exploring, managing, refining, analyzing, and visualizing environmental data. At Aspect, you’ll have the opportunity to expand and grow your GIS and communication skills, distilling technical information to a broad range of audiences, while working alongside our team of talented professionals.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and creative problem solver, well-versed in an array of GIS techniques and technologies. You know how to collect, manage, organize, and query geospatial data however you receive it—and are comfortable without a roadmap to every technical challenge. You enjoy working on multiple projects, are skilled at managing deadlines and priorities, and are adept at switching gears when needed. You embrace being a key member of a high-energy team, collaborating and communicating with technical and non-technical audiences alike.

Job Description:
  • Perform geospatial data management and spatial analysis, supporting our work in environmental, infrastructure, stormwater, and water resources projects.
  • Craft or edit high-quality, communicative print and web-based maps and graphics that tell cohesive stories and clearly illustrate project information and solutions to clients, project teams, and regulators.
  • Develop, support, and maintain mobile field data collection resources and processes, primarily using Esri Field Maps.
  • Assist with data acquisition, editing, cleaning, feature digitization, analysis/data documentation, and import/export/ETL processes for Aspect clients and project teams.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for map- and data-related issues.
  • Work with relational/table-based data in the development of data-driven map products, particularly figures depicting subsurface/environmental site conditions.
  • Use any additional technical skills (open-source GIS, scripting/coding, data science/statistics, database management, IT, graphic design, writing) to solve problems, improve workflows, and advise internal and external clients.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in geography/GIS or science degree with geography/GIS certificate), or equivalent training/certification/experience
  • 2 + years professional experience in GIS, preferably in a professional services/consulting setting
  • Experience using ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online/Portal
  • Demonstrable data management skills
  • Experience and skill producing professional map products (candidates selected to interview will be asked to submit a portfolio or examples of select work)

Workplace Setting:
Aspect’s interactive team of 130+ professionals work across seven offices in Washington and Oregon. Our casual, collaborative, and professional environment gives you the flexibility to work remotely as your role allows. Roles do require being in the office and at client sites when needed to complete their work successfully. Staff should be able to get to their assigned office within a reasonable commute time.
Why Aspect?Active, Engaged, Growing. Aspect Consulting is the home of regionally focused earth+water specialists in geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology, geology, environmental remediation, and stormwater. A diverse blend of public and private projects ranging in technical complexity provides you with a balance between applied problem-solving, technical analysis, and design. For ambitious entry-level and seasoned practice builders alike, Aspect offers a supportive, collaborative workplace designed to help you thrive and grow professionally.

We are taking a responsible approach to create a healthy work environment and meet the requirements of many of our public and private clients. As part of our commitment to the health and safety of our employees and clients, we require COVID-19 vaccines for all employees who work at client sites or in the office and all newly hired employees.

Compensation and Benefits:
