This is an exciting time to join Portland General Electric. As Oregon’s largest electric utility, Portland General Electric is leading an energy transformation that will harness the power of clean and renewable resources. Our vision for a clean energy future relies on three interrelated and overarching strategies: de-carbonize through investing in clean and reliable energy; modernize through a smarter more resilient grid; and empower our customers in their energy technology choices.

We’re searching for innovative, customer and results-obsessed leaders to help power our mission and lead the way in championing the world’s clean energy future!

Summary

The Geospatial Operations Department is the heart of PGE’s Geographic Information System (GIS), and is generally responsible for creation, acquisition, maintenance, query and visualization of PGE’s system data. Data quality and end user experience are the primary drivers toward a complete and accurate GIS to support business systems and functions across the company.
This GIS Analyst will be responsible for the intake and input of system data into the GIS, following construction. Electric system connectivity knowledge, GIS skills, and an eye for detail will be applied to the input, update, and review of “as-planned” and “as-built” data before posting to the Production GIS database. The Analyst will employ thoughtful and effective communication to foster a collaborative working environment within the department and between teams and individuals involved in the design/as-built work process.

Responsibilities
  • As-Builts Provides professional-level transmission and distribution (T&D) design as-built knowledge for new construction data input in GIS; ensures data quality, completeness, and adherence to established GIS data standards; employs technical design skills to ensure proper lay out of systems and facilities.
  • GIS Practices and Technology Uses a suite of software and tools to update and maintain the electrical connectivity model in the GIS from routine designs; assists in establishing the most economical tools and practices for managing design and as-built work.
  • Design Assessment Evaluates and reports design data quality and completeness to Line Design colleagues; develops and delivers documentation and presentations to educate Line Design personnel on GIS data standards, expectations, and impacts to dependent systems.
  • GIS Standards Ensures as-built data are consistent with GIS standards and guidelines while meeting customer and user needs; participates in standards development and update.
  • Ad Hoc GIS Support Provides occasional query and reporting of GIS-based asset information; participates in collaborative efforts to improve data quality and completeness; supports ad hoc requests for GIS support, including maps, apps, and analysis.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in geography, computer science, engineering or other related field or equivalent experience.
  • Two or more years of work experience in GIS or similar discipline.
  • Experience using Esri’s suite of GIS software.
Preferred:
  • GIS experience at a utility using Schneider Electric’s ArcFM.
  • Practical knowledge of electric systems and component connectivity
