You are an experienced GIS leader who is energized by solving problems using location-based data. You take pride in evangelizing GIS to business customers and enabling critical business processes through timely, accurate, and innovative GIS data management services and solutions.  You speak both “GIS” and “IT”. You are passionate about informed natural resource management, including sustainable forestry.

We are a fast-moving team that manages the enterprise-level GIS platform, datasets, and services for Weyerhaeuser. GIS is critical to daily operations on Weyerhaeuser’s 11 million acres of US timberlands. We’re in the cloud and we’re implementing technology that will keep us at the forefront of innovation in the forest products industry.  This includes transforming access to the company’s GIS assets using web and mobile solutions.   If you want to be part of a world-class technology team changing the world we live in – come grow with us!

In this role you will lead the GIS Services Data Stewardship team. You will develop relationships with key internal partners throughout Weyerhaeuser’s various business units, including Timberlands, Energy & Natural Resources, Real Estate, Recreation Access, Acquisition and Divestiture, Legal, and Tax, and you will acquire a thorough understanding of their data to better serve their needs. You will collaborate with these partners, other Information Technology (IT) teams, and GIS professionals to deliver GIS data, analytic, and cartographic services. In addition, you will provide technical direction for several critical enterprise geodatabases and raster library of imager and LiDAR products.

Team Lead Responsibilities
  • Lead the GIS Data Stewardship team within GIS Services. Manage a team of four GIS analysts located in multiple US offices.
  • Work closely with the various business units in the development of business cases, financial analysis, project charters, process definitions, and functional requirements for medium to large-sized projects.
  • Consult with IT management and business partners to ensure the project portfolio and roadmap is planned for the GIS Data Stewardship team, including data initiatives, integration opportunities, software upgrades, etc.
  • Provide leadership with respect to strategic vision and tactical use of GIS data for managing Weyerhaeuser’s land portfolio.
  • Promote GIS across the enterprise by leading GIS awareness and training events. Educate teams on GIS trends, benefits and risks, and effectively communicate the value and opportunity of emerging technologies.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Leverage deep relationships with business partners, IT partners, and vendor experts to identify, prioritize and ensure successful implementation of GIS data initiatives. These initiatives include assessing new third-party datasets, provisioning data for internal use, integrating data from internal GIS systems, and resolving complex data issues.
  • Provide oversight for Weyerhaeuser’s enterprise geodatabases, including a GIS data warehouse that integrates spatial and tabular data from several critical Weyerhaeuser systems.
  • Design geodatabases, GIS layers/views, integrations, and sophisticated ETL processes using SQL Server, SSIS, ArcGIS Server/ArcSDE, Python, and iPaaS integration tools.
  • Oversee Weyerhaeuser’s extensive raster library of imagery and LiDAR products.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to advance Weyerhaeuser’s Connected Forest vision by incorporating GIS technology and integration into the Forest Management, Wood Flow Planning, Transportation/Logistics, and Contract/Settlement systems.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive, relevant GIS and IT experience.
  • Experience managing a small team.
  • Experience leading large, complex and enterprise-wide GIS solutions and projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, proficient in communicating technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrate excellent collaboration skills while working together across GIS, business, IT, and vendor groups.
  • Ability to manage a diverse workload and work under time constraints with minimal supervision.
  • This position requires occasional travel up to 15%.

Technical Qualifications
  • Possess expert-level GIS technical knowledge and skills with both vector and raster data, including enterprise geodatabase design, geodatabase administration, spatial relationships, analysis, scripting, and cartography.
