​The Position

GIS Technician IIIs perform advanced specialized work in the use of Geographic Information Systems.

The GIS Technician III position, located in the Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) Mapping, Data, and Application Services (MDAS) division, provides lead direction to a team of GIS and CAD Technicians in the performance of duties related to the disposition of BES assets in the Sewer and Stormwater Collection System data layers and asset management database. 

Additional duties include records research, establishment of best practices, assignment of tasks to team members, quality assurance/quality control of work performed, contributions to process improvement, and ensuring compliance with bureau standard practices and business rules.

To Qualify
​The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
  1. Advanced knowledge and experience applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS) concepts, practices, and techniques, including mapping, editing, and attribute data conversion, transfer, manipulation, and analysis.
  2. Knowledge and experience interpreting the terminology, methods, practices, techniques, and nomenclature used in surveying, engineering, and construction design drawings, maps, and records. 
  3. Ability and experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with bureau staff and management, members of the public, and others encountered in the course of work.
  4. Knowledge and experience applying the principles and techniques used in providing lead work direction to other technical staff, including the management and direction of work, planning, monitoring, and organization.
  5. Knowledge and experience applying the methods, procedures, and skills for data gathering, research, archiving, and retrieving historical maps and records information.

The Recruitment Process
