The Freshwater Scientist works closely with an interdisciplinary team to help guide TNC’s freshwater conservation work toward achieving greater impact. 1. Coordinating and facilitating smooth implementation of on-going adaptation projects including –
  • Vulnerability Assessment & Mapping (esp. at micro-level)
  • Implementing adaptation pilot projects and supporting adaptation response measures in the Ganga Basin, High Altitude Wetlands, Eastern Himalayas and Coastal regions.
  • Validation of package of practices
  • Capacity building programmes at various levels—village, block, district, state and basin
  • Monitoring of impacts
2. Maintaining and managing relationships with Panchayati Raj Institutions,  state and national authorities, private sector, NGOs and CBOs and other institutions
3. Coordinating with relevant agencies within the Ganga basin on issues related to climate change adaptation
4. Preparing scientific and technical reports on the projects as well as lessons emerging
5. Basic knowledge of GIS

The Landscape Restoration – GIS Intern will contribute to two projects with the Landscape Restoration programme in India – building the Map Tenure tool and identifying the potential for landscape restoration interventions in WRI India’s pilot districts in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

The intern will gain experience in the following areas:
  • Collecting and compiling data from literature, internet, and clients
  • Conducting GIS analysis using global and regional geodatabases
  • Developing Python scripts to automate data processing and geospatial tasks
  • Preparing professional visuals and cartography for online applications and print publications
  • Contributing content to WRI blogs, Aqueduct publications, and fund raising proposals
