The City of Forest Grove Job Title: Land Use Intern (Unpaid Internship) Overview: The City of Forest Grove is seeking an individual to update computer databases used for analysis of development trends. The work involves collection of data using maps and forms and data entry using computer programs. The individual will also have the opportunity to analyze the data and complete a report summarizing major findings. The City’s Senior Long Range Planner will provide day-to-day project coordination under the direction of the Community Development Director. Required Qualifications: Applicants must be detailed oriented and have the ability to interpret maps, use a computer, and work independently. The ideal candidate should have experience with a variety of computer applications such as spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software. Experience with GIS software would also be helpful but not essential. Applicants should have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.70. Detailed Description: The City of Forest Grove, Community Development Department, is in need of assistance updating the City’s land use inventory database. The land use inventory identifies activities taking place on individual parcels. The inventory includes general information about buildingsand structures. The inventory has a variety of applications. The inventory can be used to determine the availability of land for future development and it provides the basis for socio-economic analysis and helps describe conditions and trends to provide a factual basis for future policy proposals. The position will include a combination of field work and office tasks. The planning intern will assist the planning staff in collecting land use information in the field and from aerial photos. The planning intern will also assist planning staff in entering data into a database. Benefits: The project has benefits for the selected candidate, the City government, and the community at large.
