About the classification: GIS Technician II’s are utilized in a variety of bureaus including the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, Bureau of Environmental Services, Portland Bureau of Transportation, Portland Water Bureau, Portland Bureau of Development Services, and Portland Parks and Recreation. The GIS Technician II positions are experienced users of GIS software, including the ArcGIS software suite and ArcGIS Online. These positions are skilled at schema development, data conversion, data integration, design of web maps for field staff, and other functions.
Bureau of Planning and Sustainability:
The current vacancy is Limited Duration. Persons appointed to limited term positions will be designated as regular or temporary employees whose appointment shall not exceed two (2) years except for the extension of grants or funding from outside sources.
This will be challenging and exciting work managing, integrating, analyzing, and sharing GIS data and mapping products to meet the needs of Bureau of Planning and Sustainability (BPS) and City of Portland projects and programs. It will require sophisticated GIS analysis skills, as well as project management and client and stakeholder engagement experience.
Specific duties include:
The ideal candidate has good technical and GIS skills and is creative, innovative, and collaborative. This position will work in a highly collaborative environment, working closely with other BPS GIS staff and the broader BPS Tech Services team. This position will help to develop the bureau's strategic spatial data mapping and analysis objectives as well as accessibility requirements, and design GIS data, analysis and mapping products to meet those needs. Portland Bureau of Transportation:
The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is seeking two detail-oriented GIS professionals to fill GIS Technician II vacancies in the Business Services Group and the Maintenance Operations Group. (1) position is a permanent (funded) position and, (1) position is a Limited Duration position. Persons appointed to limited term positions will be designated as regular or temporary employees whose appointment shall not exceed two (2) years except for the extension of grants or funding from outside sources. The people filling these roles will spend most of their time mapping transportation assets from construction plans and work order diagrams, but they’ll also be called on to provide GIS desktop support, write documentation, and conduct GIS analysis.
