The role:
Do you have experience using GPS equipment? We are recruiting two temporary survey technicians to participate as members of field crews for our Geometronics Unit. As a survey technician, you will work on projects throughout the state, primarily focused on project development, remote sensing and field surveys.

A day in the life:
  • Operate total stations, digital levels, GPS receivers, and laser scanners for the development of topographic maps, digital terrain models, and right-of-way retracement maps.
  • Process and adjust field survey data using a variety of software on field and office computers.
  • Make field reconnaissance to retrace surveys and locate existing survey monuments.
  • Clear brush for survey purposes using machetes and chain saws.
  • Operate and maintains survey vehicles statewide.
  • Maintain and adjust survey equipment.
  • This position works outdoors more than 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to operate survey vehicles statewide, which may be in remote areas and in heavy traffic.
  • Extensive travel required.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on rugged terrain.
  • Must be able to lift 60 pounds.

What we need:
Driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position.

Engineering Specialist 2 Minimum Qualifications
  • An associate's degree in engineering technology from a community college or technical school of engineering and two years of experience directly related to engineering.
OR 
  • Three and one-half years (42 months) of sub-professional engineering experience.
OR 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Note: If you are currently a transportation maintenance specialist 2 (TMS2) or have been one in the past, in addition to your completed application, please attach section three of your TMS2 position description to receive full credit for your related work. If your experience includes work in multiple maintenance disciplines (e.g. highway, sign, bridge, striping or landscape) please attach section three of the position description for each of the relevant disciplines.

  • Preference will be given to college students pursuing a degree in geomatics or land surveying.
  • Experience using GPS equipment.
  • Experience researching and locating survey monuments.
