2021 Urban Forestry Planting Program Assistant (Community Service Aide II)

Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry is hiring! If you love exploring the city, connecting with community, and working with trees, spend your summer working with our team! This seasonal position is a great opportunity for folks interested in the environment and urban forestry to gain experience in managing and caring for our city's trees.

This position will support PP&R Urban Forestry's tree planting programs, including the Yard Tree Giveaway program. In summer, work will include monitoring trees to assess health, planting, and survival. In fall, event preparation for 2021 tree giveaways will include event organization, registration support, tree delivery, and planting. This position represents the program to the public, works closely with tree recipients, and is responsible for collecting and managing tree data.

Urban Forestry Planting Program Assistant (Community Service Aide II)

Duties will include the following:
.       Visiting and collecting information about trees all over the city
.       Connecting with community members and answering questions about tree care
.       Helping to coordinate events and give out over 1,000 free trees to Portlanders
.       Planting and delivering trees for Portlanders with limited mobility
.       Using mobile apps and GIS to track tree health and survival

Position details:
.       Position start date is June 15, 2021 and runs 4-5 months
.       Starting pay rate is $17.50/hour
.       Work site is 10910 N. Denver Ave., Portland, OR 97217
