The Parks Data Collection Intern will assist with verifying existing park asset data and collecting missing information to populate the Park’s asset management system (OpenGov Enterprise Asset Management). The data collected will help Parks and Recreation staff make better informed decisions related to budgeting, planning, maintenance, and replacement of assets throughout the City’s parks.

This internship offers a chance to gain hands-on experience with park infrastructure, data collection, and municipal asset management. Interns will learn how the Parks Department tracks and manages assets while contributing to an important effort that supports long-term planning and maintenance.
This position is intended as a learning opportunity for students interested in public service, parks and recreation, data collection software, data management, or related fields. 
Project assignments may include:
  • On-site data collection
  • Preparing supporting materials for meetings, reports, or projects
  • Updating and organizing asset data
  • Working with data collection software
Work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor.

Description:

Develop and maintain the County cadastral and GIS mapping system. Apply cartographic principles and practices to maintain records and cadastral and GIS maps. Aid the Assessor's Office in the identification, location, inventory and mapping of land for assessment and valuation of property. Prepare a variety of cartographic maps; solve problems requiring knowledge of the subject matter of surveying, mapping and legal ownership. Perform all types of cartographic projects such as partitions, segregations and consolidations, research and resolution of ownership, boundary and taxing district issues.

Requirements:
  • College degree from an accredited four-year college with major work in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related field OR any combination education and experience related to legal descriptions, reading survey maps, chain of title, or other relevant field as determined by the hiring authority may substitute for the degree.
  • GIS Professional Certification (GISP) preferred.
  • Requires excellent customer service both internally and externally.
  • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with community agencies and others.
  • Ability to speak and communicate both orally and in writing in both individual and group settings to professional organizations, public entities, governing bodies, senior management, employees, clients and the public.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement solutions problems quickly in high pressure situations with professionalism.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate facts in relation to laws, rules, regulations and policies.

  • Use of Technology: Strong working knowledge of computer programs including but not limited to ESRI (ArcGIS), NRCS soil mapping, Google Maps, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies; troubleshoot problems including discrepancies in aerial mapping overlays between truth north and magnetic north; and utilize technology to increase productivity and keep technical skills up to date as necessary for continued growth and success of the department.
  • Must be a respectful member of the County team, which includes communicating and working effectively and appropriately with a variety of individuals or groups.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish work.

Oregon Humanities is now accepting proposals for our Humanities Action Fellowship for young adults aged 18–25 who are interested in developing or facilitating public humanities programs in their communities.

Fellows will receive a $1,500 honorarium, $1,000 toward approved project expenses, and support from a mentor to complete a community-focused project that brings people together across differences of background, experience, or belief.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Restoration Project Manager serves as the lead for day-to-day implementation and delivery of restoration projects under the strategic guidance of the Conservation Director. This position advances JCWC’s mission and 10-Year Action Plan by developing priority restoration initiatives, managing projects from concept through completion, and ensuring work is grounded in sound science and strong partnerships. This role requires a strategic, organized individual capable of managing complex projects while maximizing ecological and community impact.

Required Qualifications
● Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible project management experience, including leading complex, multi-partner environmental or restoration projects from planning through implementation and closeout.
● Bachelor’s degree in aquatic ecology, fisheries biology, hydrology, watershed science, or a related field. Demonstrated equivalent experience may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree.
● Demonstrated success managing multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines, and delivering high-quality results within budget and scope.
● Strong computer skills, including experience with GIS and project tracking or data management systems.
● Demonstrated knowledge of watershed science and management, including analysis and interpretation of environmental data.
● Knowledge of and commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in community-based environmental work.
● Highly self-motivated, resourceful, and results-oriented with strong organizational skills.
