We take action by helping farms and public agencies develop conservation plans for pollinators and beneficial insects, producing ground-breaking publications on insect conservation, training thousands of farmers and land managers to protect and manage habitat for beneficial insects, protecting endangered species and their habitat, and engaging the public to raise awareness about invertebrates found on farms, forests, prairies, deserts, streams, wetlands, towns and cities. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING: 
Under the supervision of the Conservation and GIS Data Analyst, the GIS Technician supports internal staff with GIS and data management work across conservation programs. This includes responding to staff technical requests, creating internal and public-facing data and GIS products, and assisting with the administration of GIS and internal reporting systems. The GIS Technician is also responsible for designing and leading staff instruction on GIS and data management skills, tools, and best practices in the form of training, workshops, and written documentation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
  • Provides technical support for staff including advice, instruction, and troubleshooting related to data management and GIS
  • Designs and creates GIS products requested by staff such as datasets, maps, web apps, and analyses
  • Works with staff to identify product intended audience, functional requirements, lifetime, completion deadline, and estimated hours to complete
  • Incorporates feedback from supervisor and staff on draft products, creates product metadata, and documents product maintenance steps if relevant
  • Proactively suggests ways that GIS and data management could be used to improve staff work
  • Train staff on GIS and data management skills, tools, and best practices
  • Design and lead staff instruction in the form of periodic trainings, workshops and written guides
  • Create a GIS and Data management help portal to facilitate staff self-service access to trainings and guides
  • Create and moderate an internal staff discussion group for GIS questions and solutions
  • Instruct staff on use of existing systems and tools, including internal metric reporting systems
  • Assist in GIS and internal reporting system administration
  • Review external facing content created by staff for adherence to data standards, including data sensitivity
  • Build out documentation for long-lifespan products so that these can be more easily maintained
  • Other responsibilities assisting in administrative duties when necessary

Requirements  
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:  
REQUIRED
  • Experience using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online to create and manipulate vector and raster data, digitize print maps, and manage large relational datasets
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Apps such as Survey123, Field Maps, Dashboards and StoryMaps
  • Demonstrated ability to create high quality maps, apps, and other data visualization products
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Google Sheets, Excel and other Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications
  • Experience teaching technical topics to groups with varying skill levels 
  • Strong communication, writing and organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage time and diverse activities under tight deadlines while delivering high quality results

PREFERRED

  • Experience training new GIS users and developing clear, user-friendly guides and procedures
  • Experience with data automation such as using Model Builder and python scripting
  • Preference for experience with ArcGIS Hub Premium
  • Experience troubleshooting GIS software

QUALIFICATIONS: 

REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS / Geospatial Science, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology or related field, OR an associate’s degree and successful completion of an accredited GIS training and certificate program
  • Two years of directly related professional work experience demonstrating GIS knowledge and skills, such as working with database and GIS in data management, visualization, and analysis

A GIS Analyst I serves as a technical representative to GIS clients and users and is responsible for complete and accurate applications of spatial and non-spatial data. This position will focus on data editing in Thurston County's enterprise geodatabase environment and the Asset Management System for the Public Works Department. The incumbent must work independently and collaboratively as a technical expert providing technical support in spatial data capture, editing, use, and QA/QC.
 
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing support in the use of the County's GIS (GeoData) websites by the Public Works Department employees
  • Responding to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, and electronically. Installing, and tracking GIS software for the Public Works Department
  • Performing data stewardship of various spatial data themes in support of Public Works and the Asset Management System
  • Performing mapping services for the Public Works Department particularly as it pertains to data maintenance.
  • Developing and maintaining cartographic products Managing data sharing processes and agreements Assisting customers by remote access or guiding the customer to correct an issue Troubleshooting and diagnosis of GIS technology problems

Qualifications
  • Associate degree in computer science, management information, engineering, geography, or related field. Additional experience, which demonstrates progressive increasing responsibilities, may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year of experience with GIS mapping related field work or applied use of GIS technology responsibility. Preferred experience should include a demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position:
  • Thorough knowledge of hardware including personal computers, network servers, communication devices, printers, plotters, data collection devices, mobile technologies, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of software including network and desktop operating systems, office automation, programming languages, and database products.

Description:  Tukman Geospatial is hiring a qualified candidate to support numerous vegetation mapping projects in California.  As a GIS Analyst I, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our mission to provide accurate and actionable vegetation maps for natural resource management in California. 

The candidate will use ArcGIS to edit vegetation maps using aerial imagery and other GIS datasets as reference.  The position also includes some field validation work, including GPS data collection and on-site verification of vegetation types, to corroborate map accuracy.  Other responsibilities include some cartography and GIS data processing tasks including data conversion and QA/QC.

Reporting to the City Engineer, the incumbent will develop GIS and other software databases to support Public Works department with a range of civil engineering, planning and special projects including but not limited to, construction projects, sanitary sewers, drainage, water, and road design; other maps such as zoning, comprehensive, flood plain, wetland, utilities and special use maps; perform simple spatial analysis and database queries. EDUCATION

Job Summary (GIS Tech)
As a GIS Technician you’ll primarily be responsible for the mapping of data corrections in the production GIS environment.  These corrections may come in the form of ad hoc requests from other PGE employees or as part of an organized clean-up project.  In this role you will also support additional work needed for developing process improvements and tracking correction requests in QuickBase.

Job Summary (GIS Analyst)
​As a GIS Analyst you’ll primarily be responsible of mapping as-builts in ArcMap using ArcFM.  In this role you will also support additional work needed for developing process improvements, incremental as-built activities focused on Downtown CORE, additional focus on reducing the GIS as-built backlog, and departmental reporting mechanisms using QuickBase.

Job Description:

Work closely and collaboratively with Land Surveying project managers variety of projects that include both field and office tasks, but will likely consist primarily of field tasks. Tasks can include but not limited to:
  • Property corner location and marking
  • Boundary surveys
  • Construction layout and staking
  • Topographic surveys
  • Elevation certificates
  • ALTA surveys
  • Cadastral property line surveying
  • Surveys for partitions and subdivisions
  • This position often requires interaction with clients on site and therefore good communications skills are a must.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
  • 2+ Years of land surveying field experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proficient with robotic total stations, preferably Trimble hardware.
  • Experience with GPS, preferably Trimble hardware.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good note-taking skills and hand-writing.
  • Ability to travel, as required, to remote job sites with occasional overnight stay.

We are looking to fill a permanent Information Systems Specialist 4 (Wildlife GIS Analyst) position at our Headquarters office in Salem.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • This position will provide technical assistance and GIS services to ODFW staff, with a strong focus on the needs of the Wildlife Division. This position does this through the processing, creation, maintenance, development, and updating of maps and spatial datasets, the use of GIS as an analytical tool, the use of other analysis techniques and engineering procedures to promote effective development, exchange and dissemination of spatial information on fish, wildlife, and their habitats. This position is specifically responsible for addressing the GIS needs related to Wildlife Management Areas, Travel Management Areas, controlled/regulated hunts, and enhancement work conducted in critical fish and wildlife habitats; private lands access maps for Access & Habitat, and Upland Cooperative Access Program sites; wildlife habitat improvement projects for big game, waterfowl and upland birds; and historic and new releases of wildlife species to restore populations to historic range. 
  • The position will create and provide custom maps, web maps with forms for field data collection, tables, data sets, and analyses for agency programs. This work is conducted is in a mixed hardware, software and database management environment, when requested by management and staff, adhering to agency standards for quality, routinely addressing issues and questions that are vital to accomplishing ODFW’s mission.
  • The position will also provide technical support to agency staff over the phone and in person, in the form of ‘help desk’ style training in the use of GIS and related information management software and interfaces (including field collection tools) for a variety of skill/knowledge levels. The position also prepares and develops formal trainings.
