The purpose of this position is to perform complex technical duties to support Public Works and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) departments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle 

• Collect spatial datasets using an unmanned aerial vehicle to support ongoing research activities at Archbold Biological Station and Buck Island Ranch
• Provide input to researchers on data products and collection methods for projects
• Assist with offsite UAV data collection
• Perform other necessary field data collection to ensure accuracy of UAV datasets
• Manage and document all planned flights in accordance with any regulations and standard operating procedures
• Perform all processing steps needed to produce a final mosaicked images and perform basic analyses or advise researchers on analyses that could be done. 
• Continue to research emerging technologies and make recommendations for future purchases.  

Other GIS Laboratory
• Maintain, calibrate, and deployment tracking and oversight of all lab electronic equipment (UAVs, Trimble GPS, etc)
• Assist in other activities in the GIS lab as needed, including but not limited to support in spatial analysis, map making, setting up mobile field data collection apps. 
• Assist in other activities happening at Archbold

Required Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, GIS or related field.
• Experience with ESRIs ArcGIS software, including ArcGIS online
• Experience working with high resolution imagery
• Must obtain FAA part 107 remote pilot license within 1 month of employment

Summary of Duties
Thurston County is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of GIS Analyst I within the Information Technology Department GeoData team.

Information Technology provides desktop, network, application, telecommunication, and geographical information system (GIS) services to about 1200 employees in County offices and departments in various locations throughout the County. The GeoData team is responsible for GIS services including spatial data, mapping, and data analysis for County internal customers and the public.

A GIS Analyst I serves as a technical representative to GIS clients and users and is responsible for complete and accurate applications of spatial and non-spatial data. This position will focus on data editing in Thurston County's enterprise geodatabase environment. The incumbent must work independently and collaboratively as a technical expert providing technical support in spatial data capture, editing, use, and QA/QC.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Providing direct customer support for the public, who are generally non-technical, with mapping and analyst services
  • Providing support in the use of the County's GIS (GeoData) websites by the public and other County offices and departments
  • Responding to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, and electronically
  • Installing, and tracking GIS software for County Offices
  • Performing data stewardship of various spatial data themes
  • Performing mapping services for a variety of County offices particularly as it pertains to data maintenance
  • Developing and maintaining cartographic products
  • Managing data sharing processes and agreements
  • Assisting customers by remote access or guiding the customer to correct an issue
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosis of GIS technology problems
  • Developing and providing documentation for GIS processes

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office environment. The position requires the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. Manual hand-dexterity to adequately manipulate computer components and operate a keyboard is essential. Sight is necessary to operate programs and systems and aid in diagnosing issues.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree in computer science, management information, engineering, geography, or related field. Additional experience, which demonstrates progressive increasing responsibilities, may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
  • One year of experience with GIS mapping related field work or applied use of GIS technology responsibility. Preferred experience should include a demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position:
  • Thorough knowledge of hardware including personal computers, network servers, communication devices, printers, plotters, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of software including network and desktop operating systems, office automation, programming languages, and database products.
  • Thorough knowledge of system and network security.

About the position
The Geospatial Developer develops and maintains the (geospatial) processes and application suite for the Metro Research Center. This person works with the team and functional lead to deliver database/server/ client-side solutions. They will provide work within our technology stack to deliver effective, engaging, and cost-effective web solutions.

This position is classified as a Systems Analyst III, and reports directly to the Enterprise Services Manager within Metro's Research Center.

Minimum Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in geography, computer science, mathematics or a related field, with major course work in computer science, relational database management systems (RDBMS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and five years of progressive work experience in software/RDBMS development, data automation, or geospatial application development; or any combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Experience scripting and geoprocessing using Python or Ember.js,.
  • Extensive experience developing web-based mapping applications using, preferably in the Esri JavaScript Mapping API.
  • Moderate experience with Internet and network protocols, peripherals, and architecture.
  • Experience developing and maintaining (spatial) databases-, preferably MS SQL Server.
  • Experience with Esri software suite, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE.
  • Familiarity with industry best practices in system and application design.
  • Solid understanding of software development, quality assurance, build, and deploy processes.
  • Proficiency in modern version control and package management.
  • Proficiency in an Agile environment.

Position Overview
The City of Wilsonville GIS and Public Works departments are seeking candidates for a short term internship to perform asset inventory activities for the City.

The candidates will be responsible for gathering field based data for various City assets.  This will be performed using the City's GIS software (ESRI ArcGIS) and Cartègraph, the City's enterprise asset management system.
 
In this position, the candidates will have the opportunity to work closely with the City's GIS Manager, Asset Management Coordinator as well staff in the Public Works department.  The candidate will help to develop the work plan and daily schedule that best meets the goals for the project. 

Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have strong computer skills including data entry, database use, and experience reading construction and as-built plans. Experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is also desired. Some experience using Cartègraph or other asset management programs would be ideal. Cartègraph is a web based program with an accompanying iPad app.

Greetings fellow GISers,

It will be cool and showery on Wednesday so we'll move back indoors for this month's Happy Hour at the Mount Hood Brewing Company,  401 SE Caruthers Street. We'll try to take over the rail cars on the river side of the pub facing Tillikum Crossing.I'll try and establish a presence there by ~ 5:15. They don't offer happy hour prices, so beers are $5.50. The menu is pizza oriented.

By bike its easiest to ride along the east waterfront/Esplanade to get there. Streetcar and Max also stop nearby.

For those of you in San Diego this week, you shouldn't miss all the fun.
