About Young Professionals (YP):

The mission of the OR-URISA Young Professionals is to provide the young professional geospatial community with the resources to develop and maintain outstanding careers. Chief among these resources is interaction with industry leaders through mentorship, internship opportunities, and workshops. In addition, the group aims to share its knowledge of emerging GIS technology and techniques with the broad geospatial community, industry professionals, and the public.

Open Position (DC) - USAID GeoCenter Communications and Training Lead

This is an early notice for a yet to be posted job position with the
GeoCenter in the US Agency for International Development,
http://www.usaid.gov/.

This position is located in Washington, DC and is open to US Citizens with
the ability to obtain Security Clearance.

The GeoCenter is a specialized team dedicated to helping USAID staff visualize geographic relationships between programs, people, and their environment. The team works directly with Missions, Washington-based bureaus, and technical offices to apply geographic analysis to development challenges. The overarching goal of the GeoCenter is to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of USAID's work by augmenting the Agency's capacity to incorporate geography into the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of USAID's development programs.

We are looking for a person that can be the training coordinator, help with messaging and communications, assist with the development of excellent cartographic products, and possibly focus on librarian type data organization.

The criteria we are considering most is listed below for your consideration.

1. Communications person- Outreach messages, website content management, social media lead
2. Training Lead- coordinates several training programs a year, works with GeoCenter analyst to develop programs and instructional content, runs logistics for getting students to training and executing event
3. Cartography- ability and eagerness to develop excellent maps and cartography products. Use analysis from other team members, plus perform some analysis for maps.
4. USAID and/or international development experience is strongly desired.
5. Secret level clearance

Conservation GIS Class in Mexico

Juniper GIS is partnering with Centro Ecológico Akumal (CEA) and Amigos de Sian Ka'an  (ASK) to offer a one-week GIS class for only $500 USD this December. This class, ArcGIS for Environmental Analysis, will focus on beginning and intermediate GIS skills for those who want to learn and/or enhance their GIS skills with a focus on conservation applications. You will work alongside local conservation staff and students from other parts of the world. Your fees will help provide training to CEA and ASK staff and to further their conservation efforts.

John Schaffer and Lyn Santos, who works for the Amigos de Sian Ka'an, will be teaching the class. Besides being a great class in an interesting place, this also will build on the great connections we all make as part of SCGIS.

GIS Project Manager

Hopeworks 'N Camden (www.hopeworks.org) is looking for a full-time GIS project manager to work in the interactive division of our youth development non-profit in North Camden, NJ. Successful candidates will have extensive experience in GIS projects - including interactive presentation and data collection. Applicants should have an entrepreneurial approach and be comfortable selling, managing, and delivering client projects. This role is unique in offering significant leadership opportunities and the ability to create job opportunities for youth in America's poorest city. The ideal candidate for this position will be highly energetic and bring passion for working with urban youth to our team and have skills that would be used in both web site design and GIS delivery services

Duties for this important opportunity include but are not limited to:
  • Identify and develop relationships with potential GIS customers, including non-profits, religious institutions, schools, and small businesses nationwide.
  • Meet with customers during initial sales meeting and/or design meetings to discuss their GIS needs and determine technology and design strategy.
  • Draft project proposals and budgets, including pricing and scheduling estimates for project work.
  • Manage customer relationships, deliver regular update reports, and ensure projects are delivered on-time and on-budget.
  • Oversee a team of youth design and development trainees to deliver client projects, including providing feedback, evaluations, and skills assessments.
  • Attend technology conferences including South by Southwest (SXSW), Dreamforce, and others.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on Hopeworks and its services locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Support all Hopeworks' services, including GIS, Web, Video, Salesforce, and Social Media.
  • Provide documentation and reporting for grants, scholarships, and donors.
  • Participate in Hopeworks donor development, community outreach, fundraising, and other programs when requested.


Requirements:
  • 2-5 years of GIS project management experience.
  • BS / BA in related field.
  • Fluency with ArcGIS/ArcMap, ArcPad, Adobe Illustrator and Google Map API.
  • Experience managing multiple client projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce for contact and project management a plus.
  • Shown ability to use Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest.


Compensation:
  • Salary commensurate with experience.

  • Opportunity to pursue fully funded graduate degree from St. Joseph's University
