We seek a graduate research assistant for an urban heat island project funded by NSF's Smart and Connected Community program in the Department of Geography at the University of Georgia (www.uga.edu). The campus is located in Athens, GA about 1.5 hours away from Atlanta. The new graduate student is expected to start in spring semester of 2017, and will conduct research on integrating human-borne and vehicle-borne temperature data to UAS data to study hyper-local spatio-temporal variability within UHIs. The Seafloor Mapping Internship aims to train undergraduate and graduate students in seafloor mapping data acquisition and processing techniques. A Seafloor Mapping intern spends his/her time onboard working with a team learning how to acquire and process shipboard multibeam, sub-bottom and auxiliary data. The position entails 2-5 weeks working aboard Nautilus as a Mapping Watchstander. While onboard, Seafloor Mapping interns will be assigned an 8-10 hour split working shift. During on watch hours interns will be in the Control Van and Data Lab as Nautilus conducts seafloor mapping surveys. Between watches, interns will be expected to assist with additional science and educational activities aboard the ship. Off-watch hours include time to network with STEM professionals aboard the ship as well as take personal time for sleep, meals, exercise and experiencing the life of at-sea exploration. A typical working day on the ship is approximately 10-12 hours.

Geospatial Analyst, Chapel Hill, NC Office The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) is seeking a Geospatial Analyst with formal training in geographic information systems, cartography, and database management, knowledgeable in environmental issues, to join our Program Communications team. This position is located at SELC’s North Carolina Office, in downtown Chapel Hill, NC. About the Position: This mid-level position reports to the Senior Geospatial Analyst, works on geospatial analyses and map production for the law and policy team, program communications projects, and handles geospatial data management. The Geospatial Analyst will work on a daily basis with SELC’s talented team of law and policy experts and communications managers to investigate emerging and lingering environmental concerns.
