The City of Woodinville is hiring a GIS Technician to be part of the Administrative Services Department’s Information Services (IS) Division. The IS Division is responsible for overseeing the City’s Information Services and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) operations to ensure alignment with the City’s daily operations and long-term initiatives.

The GIS Technician will have the opportunity to gain experience through hands-on tasks, project-based activities, and occasional field work. Working closely with the GIS Analyst and the IS Manager, this position supports the development of interactive web maps and applications, creates and maintains digital and paper maps, help improve geodatabase organization and performs data creation, maintenance, and analysis using a variety of software applications. This position will conduct related research to support modern GIS best practices.

Position Summary:
The City of Portland is looking for a GIS professional to help us grow the urban forest for all Portlanders! This position will lead the GIS program at Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry, supporting growing programs through the coordination of multiple projects and providing direction to other GIS staff. The GIS team at Urban Forestry maintains relational databases, develops tools and reports, conducts spatial analysis, and ensures data integrity, capturing and supporting the work of over 75 staff. As a GIS Technician, you will:

• Coordinate and provide lead work direction for two GIS staff, providing guidance and mentorship while ensuring efficient project delivery
• Create, manage, and execute annual team workplans and lead team and project meetings 
• Coordinate with Urban Forestry project managers to scope projects, define requirements, and develop GIS solutions
• Serve as liaison with GIS stakeholders in other work units, bureaus, and organizations in the development and maintenance of GIS data to share information and coordinate projects
• Support the administration of our GIS-based tree asset management system through cross-department team collaboration
• Manage data integrations, document and centralize data standards to ensure data quality across multiple platforms as the lead data steward for Urban Forestry
• Provide analysis, mapping, and other support for reporting on outcomes related to tree planting, tree care, and environmental equity
• Design, implement, and maintain databases and execute database queries in ArcPro, SQL, Python, or other languages

The Port of Portland is seeking a detailed oriented, driven Project Surveyor I for the Engineering- Surveying team. This position works under the direction of professional land surveyors on complex field survey projects. This individual is responsible for collecting field survey data using Trimble Survey Equipment on engineering designs, construction, property developments, and dredging projects.

This position requires travel to all Port operating areas with some office work, but is primarily outdoors working in all weather conditions. This position may require night work and will require working at active construction sites with rough ground, stairs, and/or close quarters, and lifting or carrying items up to 50 pounds.

Essential Job Duties

• Use fundamental surveying techniques to perform accurate and complete field work on boundary, topographic, construction as-built and layout, settlement monitoring and scanning surveys at all Port facilities.
• Operate terrestrial total stations, electronic levels, stationary scanners, and GPS surveying instruments to accomplish the collection of accurate field measurements using Trimble electronic data collection systems.
• Process field measurements into X, Y, Z positions with point descriptions using Trimble Business Center for mapping into AutoCAD.
• Work safely in an active airfield environment at PDX, HIO, TTD and our Marine Terminals and Industrial Properties.
•  Perform surveys on 30-50 projects a year.
• Perform intermediate office tasks using Trimble Business Center (TBC), AutoCAD, Microsoft Office products and SharePoint.
• Coordinate field survey efforts with inspectors, contractors, utility locates personnel, and all survey staff.
• Perform basic maintenance tasks on survey equipment and vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience:

• (Preferred) Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Surveying/Geomatics, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience leading a field crew and doing boundary, topographic mapping, construction staking, and verification surveys. 

License or Certifications required:

• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Driver's License.
• Must be able to obtain a TWIC Security Badge for work at Marine facilities.
• Ability to obtain a Security Badge at PDX or other Port facilities with certain designations.
