Position: Data Manager Organization: Florida Natural Areas Inventory/Florida State University Country: United States State: Florida Contact: Frank Price Contact Email: [email protected] Description The Florida Natural Areas Inventory (FNAI) at Florida State University is looking for an experienced, organized, and detail-oriented data manager to guide all aspects of data collection, processing, storage, visualization, and reporting in our office. This position will manage FNAI’s Biotics data management system, develop and oversee methods of secure and efficient mobile data collection, develop customized data reports and graphics from a variety of data sources, write protocols for data entry and QC, provide data management related training and support to FNAI scientists, and export data products for use as contract deliverables. This is an essential, long-term position in our office, and we are looking for someone with a sincere interest in our conservation mission who can learn and solve problems independently while managing multiple work priorities. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated interest in supporting conservation in Florida and those interested in growing within this position over the long term. POSITION TITLE: Data Manager (full time position with university benefits) SUPERVISOR: Frank Price (FNAI Director) LOCATION: Tallahassee, FL (Hybrid - up to two days per week remote) CLOSING DATE: February 20, 2024 SALARY: approximately $60,000 (negotiable depending on qualifications) RESPONSIBILITIES: · Managing Florida’s state Natural Heritage database (in NatureServe Biotics) including developing methods for efficient data loading, ensuring standardization in data entry and QC, managing data backups, and creating and maintaining database reports · Developing and overseeing methods of secure and efficient mobile data collection, primarily using ESRI Collector/Field Maps with ArcGIS Online and Android devices · Developing customized data reports and graphics from a variety of data sources · Writing protocols for data collection, entry, QC, and summary/analysis · Providing data management related training and support to FNAI scientists · Coordinating work with staff scientists to ensure efficient data entry and correct interpretation of data management procedures. · Exporting data products for use as contract deliverables QUALIFICATIONS: · Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience related to the duties of this position. A graduate degree in a natural science, geography, computer science, management information systems, or a related field is preferred. · Minimum of two years full-time experience working with spatial data and relational databases. · A personal interest in conservation biology and the ecology of Florida · Experience with ArcGIS (or other GIS software), Microsoft Excel, and relational databases · Significant, demonstrable experience scripting in SQL AND Python or R · Experience with GPS mobile data collection, preferably using ESRI Collector/Field Maps and/or Survey123 · Ability to cooperatively develop data processing protocols, train staff in use of these protocols, and institute QC measures to ensure data is processed accordingly. · Ability to maintain a high level of productivity while remaining meticulously attentive to detail. Ability to balance multiple work priorities. · Ability to work well with FNAI staff scientists and other university or agency partners. PREFERRED: · Experience with ArcGIS Online (AGOL), Enterprise, Portal, and the ArcGIS API for Python · Experience with Microsoft Power BI or another enterprise analytics platform (Tableau, Qlik, etc). · Familiarity with biological nomenclature · Experience with quantitative field survey methods used in ecological research. · Experience with remote sensing or image analysis · Experience with the statistical analysis of ecological data · Experience with web development, particularly data visualization and dashboard creation · Experience writing ESRI Arcade expressions Excellent technical writing skills · Experience with small office IT operations such as network administration and server configuration (to occasionally assist FNAI’s network administrator) FSU TOTAL REWARDS: FSU offers a robust Total Rewards package.
