DOGAMI Student GIS work: Mineral Land Reclamation and Regulation Office: Albany, OR

DOGAMI is recruiting for a student to work as a temp in our Mineral Land Reclamation and Regulation office in Albany.  We need someone to help with our GIS data for the mine sites we regulate.  The appointment would be for a total of 6 months’ time during a one-year period, with flexible hours. Monthly salary would be in the range of $2135-3150, depending on qualifications.  Applicants should be fluent in GIS, and a background in geology or geography would be good but not essential.  We are trying to move very fast with this to get in ahead of the pending hiring freeze, so it would be very helpful if you could distribute this to students and faculty quickly.  [email protected]

A partial list of tasks is:

1. GIS QA/QC: Validating the accuracy and currentness of existing GIS features (disturbance, permit, reclamation).
   
2. Routine Site Inspections via Aerial Photography:  Updating site disturbance delineations prior to site visits by staff using imagery and lidar, tracking disturbance through time with serial imagery.
   
3. Comprehensive Review Support: Georeferencing legacy file maps and digitizing approximate permit boundaries or land use boundaries in support of comprehensive reviews.
   
4. Update Metadata:  Metadata was previously completed, but needs to be brought up to current standards using new tools.
   
5. Complete Routine GIS Requests: Work with reclamationists to update GIS preceding or following a site inspection.
   
6. Revise Data Driven Pages:  Revise data driven pages to include more permit information making them useful as a standalone reference.
   
7. Scan and Large Format Maps:  Scan, georeference, index and archive large format maps from map cabinets in an effort to retire the map cabinets free up some office/file space.

There may also be an opportunity to work with drone imagery capture and Structure from Motion modeling, and some opportunity for participation in site inspections.
