NTRODUCTION:
The incumbent serves as a primary Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist for the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s Natural Resource Fire/Fuels program. This position is responsible for acquiring and managing a wide range of spatial information required to support the management of Coeur d’Alene Tribal lands. The incumbent must have a thorough and effective mix of technical skills in the geographic and geospatial computer application disciplines as well as a working appreciation of the Fire/Fuels program’s mission and operational procedures sufficient to support business operations and natural resources management objectives in the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s Fire/Fuels program.T he position is responsible for applying a full range of geospatial analytical techniques to identify, interpret, and resolve procedural GIS issues and complete a variety of well-precedented projects and assignments. Must show the highest professional standards and promotes a positive image of the Tribe and its administration at all times. Perform other duties as assigned to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of the department. Must have strong customer service skills and the ability to defuse tense situations while maintaining a professional demeanor. Must be culturally sensitive to a diverse customer population and able to interact tactfully and positively with Tribal members, all levels of tribal staff and management. SUPERVISORY CONTROL: The position functions under the general supervision of the Fuels Specialist. Requires independent judgment and action on the majority of work conducted. GUIDELINES: Guidelines consist of the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Policies and Procedure, Interagency Standards for Fire and Fire Aviation (redbook),Code of Federal Regulations, Indian Affairs Manual and Handbooks, Federal and State Regulations, Fire, Fuels, and Forest Management Plans. Must use professional knowledge in interpreting and applying these guidelines.
