Geospatial  Analyst

GreenInfo Network is an Oakland-based nonprofit that helps public interest groups with a wide range of interactive, analysis, and print cartography projects. We’re widely known for the quality of what we do and our positive relationships with our clients.

We are hiring a new Geospatial Analyst to join our GIS team, which represents about half of our staff. Our work is collaborative, challenging, and always committed to the public good. GreenInfo's clients are passionate about fair elections, equity in park access, public health, and land conservation, to name a few.

As a Geospatial Analyst with us, you will:
  • Support small- and large-scale projects with GIS and cartography tasks such as: sourcing authoritative data for clients, communicating with data providers, organizing and tracking incoming datasets, designing maps and map templates for clients, and more.
  • Work with senior GIS analysts, cartographers, and project managers to meet client goals.
  • Design maps and other graphics for print, PowerPoint, or other formats for a wide variety of client needs on projects large and small.
  • Contribute to the editing, documentation, and overall lively maintenance of a variety of public data sets (such as the California Protected Areas Database, a public dataset GreenInfo has been publishing for over 10 years).

Qualities we’re looking for:
  • A sharp eye for visual communication and cartography, as well as data integrity and validation
  • Considerate and clear communication skills, both with colleagues and clients
  • Interest in getting the details right, with help and support from others
  • Excitement about growth and learning new skills from colleagues
  • Ability to thrive as part of a team, standing up for your ideas but listening with respect and an open mind

Technical skills we're interested in:We expect that a Geospatial Analyst will have the below proficiency and experience and be able to provide multiple examples during interviews to showcase the following:
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro* and/or ArcMap, particularly in data editing, cartography, and analysis (*expertise in Pro is a plus)
  • Proficiency in cartographic design principles
  • Comfort in either Excel or Google Sheets

It is a plus (but not required) if you have:
  • Familiarity with QGIS, GitHub, Python, Postgres/PostGIS, R, or other relevant open-source tools
  • Previous experience in consulting, or customer service

Are you missing a few of the technical skills listed but excited about this position? We still want to hear from you. These skills fit the nature of the work quite closely, but you may still be the right fit if you are interested in building your experience in these areas.

At GreenInfo, we work in the unique intersection of technology and nonprofit advocacy, with a large part of our history supporting land conservation. To serve the public good while pushing the edge of new technology is extremely rewarding. While we celebrate our 25+ years helping nonprofits in this sphere, we also recognize that the tech industry and the conservation movement have histories of exclusion. We are conscious of that history and focus on constantly improving our hiring practices, organizational culture, and project approaches to be ever more inclusive. We also actively build a safe workspace and firmly believe in bringing our whole selves to work. GreenInfo Network is an equal opportunity employer. Historically underrepresented people in this field — including but not limited to women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community — are encouraged to apply to this position.

This is a full-time staff position with benefits. U.S. based remote applicants are welcome. The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000, depending on experience.

The growth path for this position on our team has multiple options. For example, depending on the applicant’s interests, a Geospatial Analyst can grow into a Geospatial Analyst and Cartographer, or Geospatial Analyst and Developer.

Please send a cover letter and resume to [email protected]. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis up until 5/31/2023.
