GreenInfo JobsWorking at GreenInfo Network is fun and challenging, with constant new opportunities. You'll see our current recruiting status below  - check back often, as this can change quickly.

Geospatial Analyst/Data FellowWe are hiring a new Geospatial Analyst/Data Fellow to join our GIS team, which represents about half of our staff. The work we do is collaborative, challenging, and always committed to the public good. GreenInfo's clients are passionate about fair elections, equity in park access, public health, and land conservation, to name a few.

We are looking for an entry-level or junior candidate to support our data wrangling needs. The new hire will be one of our go-to people on the team for tasks such as digitization, database entry, map edits, and helping quality check datasets. The right person for this position will be extremely detail-oriented and willing to get deep into the data. They will be able to work independently but be able to communicate well with team members, as well as clients, as needed.

This position is a one-year term from start, based on project funding. There is the possibility of extending that timeline based on available funds. The position will remain focused on data wrangling and entry-level GIS work.

As a Geospatial Analyst/Data Fellow with us, you will:
  • Contribute to the editing, documentation, and overall maintenance for a variety of public datasets (such as the California Protected Areas Database, a public dataset GreenInfo has been publishing for over 10 years).
  • Support small- and large-scale projects with GIS tasks such as sourcing authoritative data for clients, communicating with data providers, organizing and tracking incoming datasets, running data cleanup and complex analyses, and more.

Qualities we’re looking for:
  • Considerate and clear communication skills, both with colleagues and clients
  • Interest in getting the details right, with help and support from others
  • An exceptionally sharp eye for data integrity and validation
  • Excels at detail-oriented tasks, even when the work is monotonous
  • Looks for patterns and nuance in data entries, with an eye for standardization
  • Able to document both decisions and working concepts for group reference
  • Ability to thrive as part of a team, standing up for your ideas but listening with respect and an open mind
  • Previous experience in consulting or customer service is a plus, but not required

Technical skills we're interested in:
We expect that a Geospatial Analyst will have the below proficiency and experience, and be able to provide multiple examples during interviews to showcase the following:

  • Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, particularly in data editing and analysis, including tasks such as geocoding, digitizing, and modifying attributes
  • Comfort in either Excel or Google Sheets, including using formulas and tools to summarize data tables
  • Familiarity with QGIS is preferred but is not required

At GreenInfo, we work in the unique intersection of technology and nonprofit advocacy, with a large part of our history in support of land conservation. To serve the public good while pushing the edge of new technology is extremely rewarding. While we celebrate our 25+ years helping nonprofits in this sphere, we also recognize that both the tech industry and the conservation movement have histories of exclusion. We are conscious of that history, and are focused on constantly improving our hiring practices, organizational culture, and project approaches to be ever more inclusive. We also actively build a safe work space, and firmly believe in bringing our whole selves to work. GreenInfo Network is an equal opportunity employer. Historically underrepresented people in this field including but not limited to: women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community are encouraged to apply to this position.

This is a full-time staff position with benefits. The position has a one-year term based on project funding for 12 months after start date. Remote applicants are welcome, but applicants must reside in California. Out-of-state and international applications will not be reviewed.

Salary for this position is $65,000.

Please apply using this link. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, starting on January 21, 2025.
