GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the direction of the GIS Supervisor, or designee, perform technical work in the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) software and workstations. The work involves GIS database design, end-user support, application development, user interface development, and integration between GIS and other application software. The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of technical duties related to GIS applications, infrastructure mapping, query, data transfer, map creation and input of data into the GIS. The incumbent is responsible for providing assistance to upper-level GIS Analysts/Staff. Work is performed under the supervision of the GIS Supervisor or designee in accordance with overall objectives and resources available. The employee and supervisor or designee work together to develop the deadlines, projects, and work to be completed. The employee is responsible for the work, plans and carries out the assignment, resolves most conflicts that arise, coordinates work with others, and interprets policies on own initiative in terms of established objectives. The employee keeps the supervisor or designee informed of progress, potential controversial matters or far-reaching implications. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed in an indoor office environment. Occasionally, the employee will be required to drive offsite for field work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or vehicle traffic.
