In this role, you’ll support Ecology’s mission by helping the agency to utilize environmental information to facilitate data driven decisions. You will develop and maintain spatial datasets, provide technical support and guidance to Ecology GIS users, and consult and assist with GIS-based projects and service requests. You’ll have an opportunity to help build our community of practice and continue to develop your skills in configurable app development. We are looking for candidates who pay attention to detail, enjoy problem solving, possess excellent people skills, and can explain technology to non-technical people. Applicants must have proven proficiency with ArcGIS software and spatial data management and design. The Information Technology Services Office (ITSO) is the central provider of strategic and tactical support for the use of Information Technology (IT) within Ecology. The mission of ITSO is to create and support useful technology services that adapt for the future and support Ecology’s mission. The GIS Unit is a cross-functional team of GIS professionals who are dedicated to providing valuable geospatial solutions, data, and support to staff and citizens to realize Ecology’s mission. Duties What makes this role unique? In this role, you’ll coordinate statewide spatial data acquisitions and updates, meet with staff to understand business needs and translate to geospatial solutions, and provide guidance on best data management practices. You’ll participate in efforts to prepare the agency to migrate our technology to the cloud and learn how GIS is deeply integrated with data systems across the agency. As GIS helpdesk support, you will utilize your understanding of GIS software to help users when they face challenges. What you will do:
Required Qualifications: Experience for both required and desired qualifications can be gained through various combinations of formal professional employment, educational and volunteer experience. See below for how you may qualify. Option 1: Five (5) years of experience, within the last seven (7) years, using Esri ArcGIS technology (Arc GIS Desktop and Server, ArcGIS Online and ArcSDE products). Experience may include some or all of the following: SQL programming, experience with entity relationship modeling and notation, or database report development, and independently analyzing, designing, implementing and maintaining databases, and experience with data extraction and transformation (e.g. ETL) Option 2: An Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), GIS Applied Science, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), or closely related field; OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in GIS, programming, IT or related program AND three (3) years of experience as listed above. Option 3: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), GIS Applied Science, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), or closely related field AND one (1) year of experience as listed above. *Additional combinations of education or accredited vocational training, as listed above, substitute for all but (1) one year of experience.
