GIS Analyst II/Mapping Technician @ Stanford

JOB PURPOSE:
Under general supervision serve as the technical expert in the collection, production and presentation of engineering quality geospatial information. May lead geospatial staff and assist with support of the operations.

​CORE DUTIES:
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for a geospatial program area such as surveying, utility locating or mapping.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for one or more infrastructure systems or facilities information sources.
  • Perform engineering quality field data collection and measurements using engineering survey instruments. May review data collected by other team members to ensure quality.
  • Locate and mark subsurface utilities in support of construction projects.
  • Advise professional engineers, licensed contractors, and utility system owners of subsurface utility locations.
  • Produce engineering quality plans, maps, drawings, schematics, and cross sections for use in construction projects of all sizes and ongoing operations. May review work of other team members to ensure quality.
  • Programming and scripting in CAD software.
  • Query geospatial data sets to produce map-based reports for use in reports and management analyses.
  • Produce technical documentation of tools, processes and procedures for use by other team members.
  • Test and evaluate new applications, upgrades to existing applications, and changes to work processes.
  • May lead daily work activities in support of a geospatial program area such as surveying, utility locating, or mapping.
  • Train and assist other team members to develop the skills necessary to accomplish geospatial technical tasks.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and/or four years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

​Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of and ability to use one or more geospatial software programs such as CAD, GIS, databases, and geospatial data processing engines.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans and drawings and advise architects, engineers, and construction personnel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical users with a wide range of language skills and from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to complete moderately advanced mathematical or statistical calculations.
  • Ability to plan effectively and to manage/supervise projects and work queues if leading others.
  • Proficiency in industry standards and/or regulatory requirements.

Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s License.
  • Frequently standing and walking up to 5 miles a day with bending, squatting, climbing, and carrying.
  • Occasionally sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally lift/carry/push/pull items up to 50lbs.
  • Kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other).

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Occasionally work evenings and weekends.
  • May perform work outside in variable weather conditions.
  • Work week will consist of approximately 60% field work and 40% office work.
  • May be exposed to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, noise >80db, allergens/ biohazards/ chemicals/ asbestos.
  • Often work on active construction sites in proximity to heavy machinery and hazards including entering safe trenches.
