The Role:
Performs advanced, specialized, and analytical work in the development and use of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Works directly with the GIS Supervisor to coordinate large, multiple and/or complex GIS projects including developing timelines, schedules, and budgets. Identifies, assesses, and provides solutions using an array of technical tools as well as creative and out of the box thinking. Proactively identifies work process improvements and potential projects for internal and external benefit. Creates specialized mapping products by performing complex database design and analysis using multiple data sources. Performs testing, installation and maintenance of new or modified applications to the GIS system. Researches new and emerging GIS technology. Completes other GIS work as required.

Day to Day:

• Works directly with GIS Supervisor to plan and organize scope of specialized mapping requests and projects, including estimating time and resources needed to complete the work assignments.
• Works in conjunction with the supervisor on projects involving GIS, providing information, requirements, and oversight for consultants and reporting critical issues to management as deemed necessary.
• Serves as liaison with stakeholders both internal and external to the department in the development and maintenance of GIS datasets and analytics, maintaining cohesive relationships
• Advises and assists internal and external customers in solving GIS related problems using accepted tools and methods with minimal supervision
• Maintains GIS databases integrity by performing complex spatial analysis and database queries, designs, and changes.
• Creates and maintains automated processes using ArcGIS ModelBuilder, or other scheduled tasks
• Provides subject matter expertise, guidance, and assistance in training personnel.
• May have responsibility for moderately complex projects with general objectives including the direct activities of personnel assigned to projects.
• Develops alternative solutions and recommendations based on software abilities, limitations and available data; researches sets of commands and theories based on project and requester need; examines requests for mapping requesting projects to clarify requests and determine features.
• Responsible for creating and maintaining documentation on process and specifications at both a project and team level.
• Researches GIS and CAD techniques, identifies sound methodologies, and implements results of research.
• Install, test, and document specialized programs and procedures for the GIS system.
• Supports specialized mapping applications and functions
• Responsible for oversight and coordination of GIS team projects or initiatives
• Supports annual reporting tasks
• Supports Integrity Management staff to assist in data analysis and support critical functions

Come on your first day with:

• Bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, geospatial sciences, other applicable field, or equivalent combination of experience and education required.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience of GIS, geospatial sciences, or other applicable field required
• Proficiency in the ArcGIS 10.x software suite required. Experience with other GIS and CAD software such as QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, and AutoCAD is preferred.
• Experience with Schneider ArcFM and geometric networks is required
• Experience working with GIS data development, project management, and GIS programming.
• Knowledgeable in advanced GIS concepts, principles, practices and techniques, including computer mapping and attribute data conversion, transfer, manipulation, and analysis.
• Proficient and knowledgeable in cartographic design principles
• Understand gas pipeline industry standard, terminology, methods and techniques used in engineering maps and records.
• Development and maintenance of Esri ModelBuilder models required. Experience with FME workbenches and Python scripts preferred
• Ability to quickly learn new skills and abilities, technologies, data modeling, and scripting as needed
• Strong creative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to function independently and as a team member
• Ability to work effectively with limited direct supervision
• Ability to handle multiple assignments and changing priorities
