THE POSITION

Full Time Position works 40 hours per week, includes excellent benefit package, PERS/OPSRP retirement and availability of deferred compensation retirement savings program.

This classification is responsible for performing computer-aided or digital drafting (CAD), supervising the development, maintenance and accessing of mapping information in the Geographic Information System (GIS) and serving as the technical resource for computer hardware, software and peripherals in the engineering division of the public works department.

• Produce digital maps, drawings and other documents; develop procedures; collect graphic and non-graphic digital map information; maintain and distribute digital map information.
• Provide technical support for engineering requirements to meet hardware, software, peripherals and other electronic system needs; receive, set up, test and install computer systems; perform system-level and application software programming as required.
• Supervise GIS mapping operations; direct GIS staff, including performance evaluation, and participate in selection, training and discipline of staff; plan, organize, coordinate and review work.
• Trouble shoot system problems for engineering and GIS; maintain and update programs; assist users in solving applications problems; repair hardware, software and peripheral devices.
• Coordinate with county departments and outside agencies who require digital map information; collect, translate, format and distribute information from both the engineering and GIS systems.
• Apprise users of technological advances; recommend product alternatives; contact vendors for availability and pricing; participate in the purchasing of equipment, software and supplies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education, experience and training: Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering or electronics and two years experience in engineering and/or computer operations OR a satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience or training.

Considerable knowledge of automated equipment and systems; considerable knowledge of computer work stations, logic and operations; considerable knowledge of engineering principles and automation requirements; considerable knowledge of mapping practices and standards; considerable knowledge of programming languages and operating systems; considerable knowledge of mathematics, including trigonometry.

SCREENING & EVALUATION
