The person in this new role will join other GIS professionals in the Department that are supporting current GIS needs, including spatial analysis, and transportation data management, and addressing, while also pushing the envelope to utilize GIS tools to deliver that mission.

The principal function of this role is to  support the department’s use of, and maintain community development related GIS datasets, support maintenance of the City's master address GIS data, and other directly related work, as required. This work will assist the Department’s mission by using GIS to guide thoughtful planning for the future and supporting current development by tracking geographic trends.

Key responsibilities

• Manages, analyzes, and/or develops demographic, economic, and geospatial data, including the creation and management of data and GIS products in the City’s Enterprise GIS.
• Creates process automation and documents workflows and processes including data sources.
• Leads updates to Community Development Department GIS data, including comprehensive plan designations, zoning, transportation, environmental, and boundaries; familiarity with quality control and quality assurance tools for data validation.
• Maintains the City's GIS master address data in the City’s Enterprise GIS environment, including coordination with the City’s Information Services department for the provision of backup, security, and protocols to ensure database integrity and optimum operation.
• Supports Community Development’s field data collection efforts using tools in the City’s Enterprise GIS
• Regular communication with internal departments and external agencies such as Washington County, Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency, Metro, etc.
• Leads and supports assigned staff in a non-supervisory capacity.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

​Required qualifications and skills
An Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Urban or Regional Planning, or a closely related field and up to two years of municipal related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job. This position requires a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of advanced GIS concepts and applications (such as spatial analysis, demographic data analysis, transportation data analysis, etc.), working within and enterprise GIS environment including working with Enterprise GIS databases, and positive and effective customer service.

Preferred qualifications and skills
The ideal candidate in this role will come to the City with

• Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Urban or Regional Planning, or a closely related field
• Experience with ArcGIS Pro
• Knowledge of topology editing in ArcGIS Pro
• Knowledge of GIS data management and data integrity
• Knowledge of GIS data management and analysis including addressing transportation data analysis and management, demographic data analysis, spatial analysis, field data collection, reading property legal descriptions, COGO data entry and
• Knowledge of Community Development principles and practices
