GIS expertise for Fire Risk Map of Oregon (OSU Extension)

Carrie Berger, of the NW Fire Science Consortium, is putting out an inquiry for GIS expertise and giving a heads up that the Extension Fire Program will be looking for three GIS folks to work on a special assignment through December 31, 2019.
 
Specifically, they are putting together a Fire Risk Map for the State of Oregon. Responsibilities

• Develop a working familiarity with the Pacific Northwest Quantitative Wildfire Risk Assessment (QWRA), data and mapping.
• Research public data, modify the QWRA as needed to achieve State-wide accuracy of fire behavior risk and values at risk.
• Utilize ESRI, Trimble, and CAD software to produce visualizations, reports, and analyses of field survey data. Perform associated mapping and records work as assigned.
• Prepare as-built geodatabases for State Fire Risk project from as-built field data and ensure that quality control on new or revised data conforms to standards laid out in the geodatabase, or any other applicable standard or policy.
• Prepare specialty maps for client use. Prepare maps of risk interactions and fire modeling. .

Qualifications

• Minimum Geographic Information Systems intermediate working knowledge.
• Two years of experience and knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software.
• Applicants will have a basic understanding of as-built geodatabases and ability to seek out these databases from various public sources and have the ability to work independently.
• Ability to apply appropriate, as-built to solve risk assessment-related problems.
• Ability to review work for accuracy and completeness and the initiative to recommend solutions or improvements.
• The candidate must have good attention to detail to maintain and enter data in a GIS database.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective harmonious working relationships with existing staff.
• The ideal candidate should also have fire behavior and fire ecology knowledge and experience.
