GIS Intern w/ City of Woodinville (WA)

Position Information
The City of Woodinville is offering an internship position in the Information Services Division starting June/July 2025. The Information Services Division is responsible for management of the Information Technology (IT) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) operations as well as its alignment with the City’s day-to-day business operations and initiatives.
 
The GIS Intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in each of these areas primarily through hands-on tasks, project-based activities, and occasional field work. The GIS Intern will provide a broad range of GIS technical support on projects with duties including geographic data compilation, standardization, and management; web mapping application development and maintenance; and cartographic product creation. This Intern will conduct related research to support modern GIS best practices.

This opening is based at Woodinville City Hall and will work primarily in an office environment.  

Essential Functions

GIS Data Management

• Collect, create, and handle geospatial data from various technologies. Ensure data accuracy and adherence to the organization’s standards. Create data reviewer quality control rules.
• Support in the transition from shapefile data format to an organized geodatabase schema. 
• Write and maintain documentation on data and metadata standards. 

ArcGIS Online Development

• Develop new and assist in managing web apps and maps that are needed amongst various City departments.
• Understand and help manage security levels of data through assigned groups and user roles. 
• Publish and keep map services up to date. Research map services that are available by county, state or federal entities, to facilitate use by/for web applications. 
• Support of City integration with asset management and permitting software.

ArcGIS Pro Cartography

• Work with SQL queries, MapPlex labeling, symbology settings, and various other ESRI tools for high quality cartographic representations. 
• Produce maps of various sizes and file types for business stakeholders. Delivery of requested products and services through dynamic timelines.  
• Translate and problem solve requests into a cohesive, easy to understand exhibit.
