Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, has exciting opportunities for professionals with GIS and natural resource expertise.  DU has been using advanced GIS and remote sensing technologies since 1984 to manage the complex issues in wetland and waterfowl management, land-use planning, and environmental conservation.  This GIS Intern position will be based in our Western Regional Office in Rancho Cordova, CA (Sacramento Area), and requires GIS experience with ESRI products and a background in natural resources, wildlife and wetlands.  
 
Responsibilities:
The intern will work with a team of GIS professionals to update the National Wetlands Inventory in the western US.  Other responsibilities may include GIS analysis to support Ducks Unlimited’s conservation efforts, supporting project biologists and engineers with mapping needs, and setting up and maintaining GIS systems.  Applicants should have experience with GIS data development, on-screen digitizing, photo interpretation and preferably some experience with wetland identification and classification.  The intern will gain experience in wetlands mapping, photo/image interpretation, GIS data development, field data collection, image processing and segmentation, ArcGIS Online, information technology and hardware/software support.
 
Qualifications:
Candidates must have at minimum, a B.S. in a natural resources field of study and experience using ESRI software products. Experience in wildlife management, ecology, and wetlands is preferred. The qualified applicant will be a self-motivated, conscientious individual who can work independently with minimal supervision as well as communicate closely with Ducks Unlimited biologists and engineers.

Term and time commitment:  Position has a term of 12 months.  40 Hours/week, Full-time
 
Financial Assistance:  Intern will be paid an hourly wage. No benefits or relocation costs are offered.
