GIS Internship w/ City of Ellensburg (WA)

The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy in our Gas Division for a GIS Intern.  Pay is $22.00/hour and the position is expected to last between 5 and 8 months. ​

​The person filling the GIS Intern position in the Gas Division will perform various tasks related to the City’s natural gas utility with limited supervision.  Will be responsible for interpreting natural gas as-builts and other documents; will analyze, validate, and edit GIS data AutoCAD data; will confirm data in field when necessary; and will digitize and file system documents for regulatory compliance. Other duties may be assigned.
This is a temporary, non-benefited position that will last approximately 5 to 8 months working 20 to 29 hours / week.   Will accrue paid sick leave at a rate of one (1) hour for every paid 40 hours worked.  Employees are eligible to begin using accrued paid sick leave on the ninetieth (90th) calendar day after the commencement of employment.

​Qualifications:  

• Currently enrolled in a Geographic Information System (GIS) curriculum designed to lead to an Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in geography or related field; OR
• Have one (1) year of GIS-related experience and/or training AND interested in a GIS-related career; OR
• Possess an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience with AutoCAD is preferred

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Must possess thorough knowledge of GIS drafting and editing principles and techniques using ArcGIS Pro.
• Must have the ability to problem solve and be detailed-oriented to validate utility data.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Must have the ability to establish and maintain courteous and cooperative working relationships with other employees.
• Must understand and comply with City policies, laws, and regulations affecting Department activities.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business documents, professional journals, trade documents, technical procedures, and government regulations.  Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner, verbally and in writing.

Miscellaneous:
Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license or have ability to obtain one prior to employment; must provide proof of insurable driving record.

While performing the duties of these jobs, the employee must possess general requirements of physical strength, stamina and coordination to adequately perform office and field duties during the day and evening hours as necessary.  The employee must be able to traverse uneven terrain in field locations outside the office and will be exposed to various weather conditions.
