Summary
These positions are located in the BLM Oregon State Office, Klamath Falls Field Office, Lakeview District, and the Medford District Office. The selectee(s) for this position will be responsible for the acquisition and management of a wide range of spatial information required to support the management of public lands to include identifying, interpreting, and resolving multi-faceted GIS issues for projects and assignments pertaining to metadata production and publication.

Salary Ranges - Klamath Falls/Medford Oregon: GS-09 $57,118 - $74,250 per year and GS-11: $69,107 - $89,835 per year

The Geographic Information Systems Specialist will work with resource specialists to determine type, amount, and level of information required to develop and analyze ecosystem management alternatives; and assess the quality, compatibility, and limitations of various data used in a wide array of land management and planning efforts.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Compiling natural resource, topographic, and cartographic data for creation of thematic map products and presentation materials for multi-disciplinary resource planning, preparation of environmental and social assessments, and other project supporting natural resource management decision making.
• Developing data dictionaries, data models, and metadata for multi-disciplinary information and geospatial applications; and coordinating conversion of geospatial information and remote sensing imagery into Geographic Information System (GIS) databases.
• Providing advice on the implementation, management, analysis, and use of geospatial information; making recommendations on the development and application of geospatial analysis processes, protocols, and solutions to mission critical resource management issues.
• Serving as a technical point of contact for GIS, Global Positioning System (GPS), remote sensing, and mapping; and providing technical assistance to software users in the development, storage, retrieval, and analysis of data.
• Conducting formal and informal training; acting as a program liaison with the District Office, other federal agencies, state, and local governments, learning institutions, professional organizations, and other individuals concerned with GIS, GPS, remote sensing, and mapping.
• Operating complex computer systems and software packages and developing procedures to produce intricately detailed maps and graphics for many varied Forest resource programs, planning documents, and a variety of other requirements.
