This position has the option to be based in our Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA office.  It will require travel to both offices to coordinate projects.

​Otak is hiring a GIS Specialist to join our Water and Natural Resources team! Work may include watershed planning, stormwater utility system planning, stormwater asset management, corporate GIS support, and other duties. This position functions as a technical specialist and integrates a broad base of knowledge in the disciplines of data base management, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) theory and practices, GIS application functions and capabilities, map design and production, interactive online maps, and interpreting aerial photography. Strongly preferred areas of additional expertise include hydrology, wetland science, watershed science, fish biology, water quality, landscape architecture, or visualization.

What you’ll do:

• Perform data mapping, validation, analysis, research, and reporting utilizing GIS maps and databases.
• Perform GIS analyses on watersheds, basins, and municipal stormwater systems.
• Produce high-quality, presentation-ready maps and other analytical tools for dissemination to clients, community boards, city councils and/or local press.
• Assist with design, development and input quality control for databases that are tailored to the client's end use.
• Develop online maps and tools for data input and communications.
• Collect and validate geographic data.
• Aid in developing company GIS standards and practices and provide technical input on all GIS related issues.
• Keep informed of analytical best practices and national and regional datasets for water resources, soils, land cover, urban planning and other topics as needed.
• Provide GIS technical support and training to company users.
• Other duties as assigned.

What you bring:

• Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Planning or related field with GIS Certificate
• At least 3 years of post-educational experience using common GIS desktop software programs
• Experience with common geospatial data standards (shapefile, geodatabase, KML, etc.)
• Experience with StoryMap and ArcGIS Online strongly preferred.
• Study, certification, or experience in water resources fields or GIS preferred, such as: hydrology, stormwater management, wetland science, fish biology, water quality, cartography, data management, or asset management
