PURPOSE: 
Performs a variety of technical duties associated with supporting and inputting information to the City's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program; provides technical assistance to other GIS personnel within the Department of Innovation and Technology; participates in the maintenance and input of GIS and Computer Aided Design (CAD) program data, including collection and synthesis of data, and asset management support for public utilities, general mapping, and other GIS/CAD related activities; and performs other work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Perform technical tasks related to the development and maintenance of GIS programs and datasets including, but not limited to, GIS data collection, data manipulation, and other project development activities; accurately review and input GIS and CAD-based graphic and tabular data; provide input and review of collected data in various system modeling and reporting programs.
• Assist in interpreting and preparing data for transfer to appropriate GIS and supporting CAD systems or databases, such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, ArcSDE, and other similar systems; assist in the development of automated procedures/techniques for accessing and linking mapping features to existing database systems; assist in the development of forms and procedures for data collection, methods of updating, error checking and correction, report definitions, and production control procedures.
• Provide input regarding operational and maintenance procedures as they relate to collected GIS data; participate in the development, maintenance and management of GIS data information collection and maintenance procedures, and their use within the division, throughout City Departments, and the general public; assist in coordinating with other departments regarding the use of the GIS  data.Participate in the preparation of presentation materials, maps, and miscellaneous correspondence required for documentation and use of GIS, and related systems.
• Assist in conducting GIS and related training sessions for City users to share knowledge gained from technical experience or from vendor provided training; answer questions from users regarding capabilities and features of the system.
• Aid  in maintaining security for systems and ready file access.Participate in the City GIS users group to discuss project work and overall work product capabilities.
• Research and evaluate available hardware and software options and make recommendations regarding upgrades, acquisition and disposal; review and keep current on changes within the GIS  program arena.Write, follow, and/or update procedures relating to area of expertise; track, document, and report performance relating to areas of expertise.
• Assist and support team performance and work cooperatively with other team members; provide positive support to internal and external customers.Follow all safety rules and procedures established for work areas.

AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS: 

• Maintain proficiency by attending training conferences and meetings, reading material and meeting with others in areas of responsibility.
• Perform other work as assigned.​
