The GIS section of Tucson Water is seeking a GIS Technician to participate in various GIS projects in support of the Water Department’s infrastructure by coordinating GIS data, and information that has specific department/division or City-wide implications. The GIS Technician is responsible for all aspects of GIS data entry, associated research, and map production. GIS Technicians in this position read and interpret source documents such as civil engineering plans, plat maps, legal descriptions, and enter required data into the GIS database. General Description Responsible for all aspects of GIS data entry and map production. Reads and interprets source documents such as civil engineering plans, plat maps and legal descriptions and enters required data into the GIS database. This includes research, use of other Enterprise database programs such as a Customer Information System (CIS) or an Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) System. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree Minimum Experience Qualification: Under one (1) year of experience with GIS software and query languages, knowledge of automated mapping and GIS including ESRI's ArcGIS software, GIS relational database issues, general database concepts, theory and principles of GIS software manipulation, usage requirements and analysis of system outputs and computer system operations. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position may be considered. Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess the above minimum qualifications as well as relevant experience in the areas listed below:
