​THE POSITION:
The East Bay Regional Park District is a system of beautiful parklands and trails in Alameda and Contra Costa counties to the east of San Francisco. Established in 1934, the Park District is the oldest and largest regional park system in the United States, managing over 125,000 acres of parkland within 73 regional parks, and encompassing over 1,300 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and nature learning.

Vacancy Situation: The Park District currently has one vacancy located at the Administrative Headquarters at 2950 Peralta Oaks Court in Oakland, California. Please note that teleworking for some or all of the hours may be required due to COVID-19 restrictions. The hiring pools established as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and additional vacancies that may occur during the one-year life of the hiring pools.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Supporting District-wide GIS projects in database development and maintenance
• Prepares the layout and design of a variety of maps and graphics
• Supporting interdepartmental requests for maps and graphics for presentations or reports
• Collecting data in the field utilizing GPS units

Essential Functions
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Supports District-wide GIS projects in the areas of GIS database development and maintenance, cartography and design, map production, web-based mapping applications and presentations, general data geoprocessing and analysis, and GPS data collection;
• Assists with system administration application customization;
• Assists with the production of presentation graphics;
• Performs data analysis, collects, digitizes and enters data, as well as develops and updates databases;
  Prepares the layout and design of a variety of maps and graphics;
• Designs, digitizes, implements, and manages GIS software applications for production of paper and digital maps;
• Develops, creates, and updates GIS layers consistent with existing standards;
• Stays abreast of current GIS technology and software;
• Performs data management including data validation and correction, queries and editing in GIS.

OTHER FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:
Assists with researching, downloading, and maintaining outside agency GIS datasets; and performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in geographic information systems, geography, planning, or a related field,
AND
Experience: One year of work experience in GIS, primarily using ESRI software.
Additional Information
The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.
Knowledge of:

• Basic principles of GIS including its uses, applications, and programming;
• ESRI software extensions; GIS hardware, software, and field use considerations;
• Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Ability to:

• Work with ESRI's application customization;
• operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and Database applications;
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels, including a culturally diverse general public, with a focus on quality service to internal staff and external customers.

Conditions of Employment:

• Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is a condition of initial and continued employment.
