Position: GIS/Remote Sensing Specialist I Organization: Ducks Unlimited, Inc. Country: United States State: Michigan Contact: Mat Halliday Contact Email: mailto:[email protected] Description GIS Specialist - Great Lakes/Atlantic Region Ducks Unlimited- Michigan seeks a full-time GIS Specialist I to join our highly motivated team in the Dexter, Michigan area. The role will work collaboratively with a team of GIS professionals to update the US National Wetland Inventory (NWI). The successful candidate will have experience with NWI projects, and excellent skills in GIS, communication, and time-management. The position will report to Mat Halliday, GIS Analyst III. Responsibilities: - GIS data development. - Derivation of LiDAR digital terrain indices, as needed. - Data management including quality assurance and control. - Assist in training GIS interns in photointerpretation and other tasks as needed. - Clearly write up methods, results and status updates for reports and other communications. - Effective communication with team members, stakeholders and partners in calls, emails, meetings, and presentations. - Generate maps for publications, posters, reports, PowerPoint presentations and other internal and external communication needs. Qualifications: Experience and Education: - Minimum: Bachelor's degree in GIS and remote sensing or related field with coursework in GIS and remote sensing. - At least 2 years' GIS experience. - Prior work on at least one National Wetland Inventory project in which the applicant participated in a successful submission to the US FWS. - Performed field work including identification of wetland plants. Communication Skills: - Solid ability in both written and verbal communication. Technological Proficiency: - Proficient with ArcPro, including editing, imagery, analysis, and cartography tools. - Working knowledge of ModelBuilder or Python. - Experience with LiDAR data. Analytical Skills - Experience with classifying wetlands and deepwater habitats using aerial imagery and the Cowardin classification system. Interpersonal Skills (if applicable) - Dedicated team player. High degree of independent judgement. Experience working as a resource in a team setting. Office Work: The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a hybrid in-office / at-home schedule, if desired. They will be expected to work in the Dexter, Michigan office at least 2 days a week. Field Work: The successful candidate will be willing to travel for project-related fieldwork, partner meetings, and conferences. Travel less than 10% of overall work.
