Information Technology GIS Technician (CA)

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents are responsible for a variety of routine to complex professional GIS assignments in maintaining the accuracy and quality of GIS database information and providing products, services and end-user training to support a wide variety of Agency functions, processes and analytical requirements. Incumbents apply GIS theories, principles, software and data to produce custom and standard maps, data displays and other products to meet end-user requirements. Incumbents design, develop and maintain specialized data sets and layers within the District's GIS database or in separate databases to support these functions.

​ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Performs GIS data capturing, data conversion, and data entry work using ESRI ArcGIS software; maintains integrity of data base using quality control procedures.  
• Uploads data into District's GIS database from internal and external sources; visually audits uploaded information for errors or inconsistency.
• Inputs information into the GIS database from As-built plans and information provided by contractors and consultants; updates land base and street centerline information as required for local development. 
• Generates custom GIS data queries and analysis as requested by District staff.
• Utilizes the Global Positioning System (GPS) to collect geographic information in the field; locates District assets, resolves accuracy issues using GPS and integrates GPS data into GIS database
• Generates a variety of specific, high quality cartographic and thematic maps and provides spatial analysis for any requesting department, internal meetings, Board meetings; produces water/wastewater system atlas maps for all departments.
• Receives and formats data records and/or facilitates transfer of electronic files into Geographic Information System (GIS) from CAD database; works with GIS Analyst to improve database interface.
• Provides assistance to professional engineering staff regarding engineering capital projects or other special assignments as needed.
• Works cooperatively with other users, employees, department managers, outside vendors and customers.
• Regular attendance at the work site.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
