Welcome to Planet. We believe in using space to help life on Earth. Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history. This constellation delivers an unprecedented dataset of empirical information via a revolutionary cloud-based platform to authoritative figures in commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. We are both a space company and data company all rolled into one. Customers and users across the globe use Planet's data to develop new technologies, drive revenue, power research, and solve our world’s toughest obstacles. As we control every component of hardware design, manufacturing, data processing, and software engineering, our office is a truly inspiring mix of experts from a variety of domains. We have a people-centric approach toward culture and community and we are iterating in a way that puts our team members first and prepares our company for growth. Join Planet and be a part of our mission to change the way people see the world. Planet is headquartered in San Francisco, California, Earth. About the Role: In this role you will enable and facilitate the generation of 3D products from Planetscope and Skysat imagery. These satellites equip imaging push frame sensors that can benefit from Structure from Motion (SfM) and MultiView Stereo (MVS) techniques more typically employed in aerial and drone imagery. There is much work to be done in this update and would be a great experience for an up-and-coming engineer who works in remote sensing and photogrammetry. We want to test and validate procedures to produce DEMs and DSMs from Planet’s satellite images, and improve the quality of the geometric calibration of our systems. The work of Planet Engineering teams is performed at scale and affects millions of images and terabytes of data. This internship will be coordinated by two teams that collaborate closely on a daily basis, the Rectification team based in the US and the AQuA (Automatic Quality Assessment) team located in Berlin (EU). Impact You’ll Own:
What You Bring: You’re a software developer, data scientist, or student with programming and analysis experience
It will be helpful (but not required) to be familiar with:
