Position Summary: The technician will be responsible for the mapping and monitoring of woody and herbaceous plant species within the riparian corridor of the Verde River. This position requires hiking long distances in rugged terrain while identifying and mapping native and invasive plant species. Technicians will work as a team and use Collector for ArcGIS to map and record findings.

Position Summary: The technician will be responsible for the mapping and monitoring of woody and herbaceous plant species within the riparian corridor of the Verde River. Technicians will work as a team and use Collector for ArcGIS to map and record findings.
 
Duties & Responsibilities:

• Identify native plants of Arizona and >20 species of woody and herbaceous invasive plants.
• Use the ArcGIS app Collector to accurately collect spatial and tabular data.
• Navigate to field sites throughout the Verde watershed with written directions and GPS points.
• Collect voucher specimens of plants.

 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to use dichotomous keys is a must, botany background in the Southwest a plus.
• Familiar with GIS mapping and data collection.
• Ability to manage data with Microsoft Office suite.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with staff and landowners.
• Ability to hike long distances in extreme weather conditions, including high temperatures.
• Ability to navigate in the field and in remote environments by GPS and written directions.
• Knowledge of the Verde Valley is a plus.

 
Position Requirements

• Must be 21 years of age and hold a valid Driver’s License, be insurable, and have experience with four-wheel drive on rough dirt roads.
• Ability to walk to project sites that are on uneven, steep, rocky, and include crossing streams.
