The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality currently has a full-time opportunity for an Assessment Specialist (Natural Resource Specialist 2) at the DEQ Laboratory in Hillsboro, Oregon. The Laboratory and Environmental Assessment Division supports the Department of Environmental Quality in achieving its mission by providing laboratory and research services in water and air quality monitoring, organic and inorganic analysis, toxicology and biology, and quality assurance. The Division serves the Agency programs and regional offices throughout Oregon, and supports the agency's mission and values by providing timely, high quality, scientific information through monitoring, laboratory services, and data analysis. The Resource Assessment & Technical Support section supports the Laboratory's mission through a variety of different functions. This section provides oversight of purchasing and inventory control. The section is also responsible for the development and maintenance of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), including sample tracking, data entry, final reports, and verification of the data released to the analytical data repository. This section oversees the IT services of the laboratory. The assessment portion into which this position falls analyzes data and develops reports for statewide water and air quality assessments. What you will do! The Assessment Specialist assists with data analysis and review, including evaluating data submitted to the DEQ under the water quality volunteer monitoring program and other third party collections for the purposes of establishing the data quality. The work of this position also directly supports the development of the Integrated Report (as required by the Clean Water Act). This position utilizes R, GIS and other programs to complete this. In addition, this position assists with other water quality data management, data interpretation, data review, and report writing. What’s in it for you!
