DESCRIPTION
The Network GIS Specialist is responsible for creating and executing a strategy to obtaining, reviewing and maintaining the GIS information related to the Amazon network. Amazon Network GIS Specialist is constantly challenged to drive continuous improvement and deliver the highest quality, most technically efficient network database in the world.
 
As a Network GIS Specialist you will be a part of highly creative, efficient team tasked with tackling the most fascinating and challenging problems in network design and inventory management. Amazon Network GIS Engineer are always at the forefront of the GIS industry in terms of innovation, and maintain a focus to deliver the most innovative products and records to our customers.
 
Our networks are industry leading in terms of capacity and cost effectiveness. The Network GIS Specialist is ultimately responsible for the integrity of the network GIS records. The GIS Engineer will also be utilized as a leader in the GIS space. This person will be responsible for the documentation of the Amazon physical network infrastructure. This will include designing new plant, using field personal to acquire existing network information, reviewing as-builts or running an a contractor for data acquisition.
 

• Oversight of all GIS activities in the Amazon Network. This will include the ownership of the metro fiber and long haul assets within the GIS tool.
  
• Develop processes to ensure the GIS records are updated when a project is complete.
  
• Develop GIS data loading standards.
  
• Develop GIS data quality standards.
  
• Perform quality audits and ensure issues are remediated before the records become out of date.
  
• Understand the fiber market segments, customer base, and industry verticals.
  
• Interface with key internal Fiber Deployment Engineers and Fiber Business developer to ensure the correct oversight is provided.
  
• Understand the technical requirements of our engineering teams and ensure the design is completed to meet the project requirements.
  
• Understand fiber deployment types and insure that the tools can prove diversity requirements are required are met.
  
• Able to think out of the box to bring new technologies forward.
  
• Prepare and provide usage reports on the network.
  
• Develop an audit program to obtain and update GIS information from the field.
  
• Review and approval red lines for GIS upload.
  
• Handle ad-hoc incoming inquiries and problems to ensure the required information is available.
  
• Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  
• Will train employees in various GIS workflows
  
• Ability to work across multiple time zones
  
• Assist other teams with various, ad-hoc GIS requests
  
• Willing to travel 5-10% of the time.

 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• The right person will be highly technical and analytical, possess 5-7 years of telecom GIS systems.
  
• Understand the fiber business and have worked on multiple telecom GIS tools.
  
• Use of ESRI GIS DB in the past
  
• Excellent attention to detail is essential.
  
• Skilled user of Microsoft suite of tools including Outlook, Word, Excel and Project.
  
• Ability to prioritize multiple competing demands to deliver for the customers in a specific time window.
  
• Strong verbal and written communications skills are a must, as well as the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Having strong contacts in fiber, transport and infrastructure markets.
  
• Good technical understanding of transport technologies (Fiber, DWDM, etc.)
  
• Has managed the implementation of a GIS database and tool.
  
• Has managed large Network GIS database
  
• Has been a GIS database admin.
  
• Has developed GIS applications
